Baimor
Hi Roddy. You are a bloody hero!! I've managed to get limited mileage (5000 per year) via Adrian Flux for only £635! I'll give you some clues mate see if you can guess. Its 23 years old, has 4 doors, an outrageous bodykit and ( this may give it away) was the fastest production FULL four seater four door production car when new. Any ideas mate? Regards. roddy
Well done on that. Did Flux also give you a guaranteed valuation? Haven't got a clue on the car because I'm not that much of a petrolhead. I love my MX5 and that's enough for me.
Baimor
Hi Roddy. Yes I've got agreed value on it. They're going to accept the valuation from the owners club which is good as it's slightly more than I paid. Not a lot more but at leat it's not less than I paid!! If I said it was from the GM group would that help you?? Mark
roddy
It's going to be a Yank Tank then. I would suggest the Dodge Spririt, but I don't think that's GM.
Baimor
No its not a yank tank Roddy! They've never held any appeal to me ( apart from a certain orange dodge charger with 01 on the doors)
roddy
How about the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton? That's got to be in the rankings.

Baimor
Very nice Roddy!! I've always been a fan of yellow cars. Don't know why but it's just such a sporty colour.
roddy
Yes Mark, a sportscar needs some colour to it. This yellow has a gold fleck in it which glows in the sunshine. Been some work on it since that pic. Apart from a new engine (Oops, I blew the last one ) there has been a lot of tarting up of the underneath. Gold painted calipers and springs and other general tidying up work. We had a fantastic 5 days in France last Spring, I would love to do that again, but it's a long drag from here to the Channel Ports. Maybe I should look at the Newcastle/Amsterdam ferry as a starting point. I have been reading up on the Carlton. Shit a brick Mate, that's some car. Rear wheel drive too which is as it should be. I would rather share the roads with that type of car in the proper hands, than all of the Poxall Curseboxes and their attendants that we have to put up with. That policy from Flux seems very fair looking at the car. The only thing wrong with it is the tin top. Have fun!
Baimor
Yes mate it Is some motor! I really do feel like I'm living the dream at the moment!! Or at least I will tomorrow when I finally get it!! I was a 22 year old escort nut when these cars were first released and swore I would have one someday! Although 'er indoors absolutely detests it!! She says it's an " old man's chav chariot" and that I should grow up!! It absolutely broke my heart selling the escort I've had so long but neither of my son's were remotely interested in it and for the amount it needed spending on it to re-restore it i thought it was time to let it go! I'm suffering with arthritis in my neck and lower back now so i thought it was time to end my motorbike interest whist i still have all my limbs!! Although it should have 377 horses I feel a few may have escaped in the past 23 years so the first thing is a rolling road tune then a few scabs on the bottom of the doors need addressing so it's going to the paint shop as well. Don't be put under any illusions tho mate its not as nice as the one in the pics but i managed to get it for 11 grand and the owners club valuation was 12750. It's a good condition 2 car rather than a condition 1 but nothing that can't be sorted and it's value can only increase i hope.
EngineDriver
Hi Mark, It's always good when someone finally achieves a dream, I hope you enjoy every minute of it chap. I am sorry to hear you are suffering with arthritis, I get it a bit in my hands and that's bad enough, though currently I'm off work with sciatica which I would not wish on my worst enemy, well probably I would cos it's a bas*%$d! I must admit I had Google your new motor as I hadn't a clue what one was! So excuse my ignorance here,.............If I've got this right it's 11 grands worth of Vauxhall Carlton with a 3.5ltr Lotus lump under the lid? WOW !! I have to say I'm not that much into cars, I like different things, for example I very nearly bought 6x6 ex US army Truck but was thwarted at the last hurdle by her indoors who would not let me park it on the front garden!.............can't imagine why not! I am currently restoring my daily driver which is a 1997 Rover 416 Tourer which I paid the princely sum of £250 for 18 months ago, it's on LPG and costs less than £20 a week to run! happy days! Can't help but think though that 11 grand would buy a hell of lot of TRAINS matey! Nige.
Baimor
Thanks very much for the kind words Nige. Well Nige I'm hoping 'er indoors is going to let me spend the 1750 I saved on the asking price on trains! ! It's the first car I've bought that for some reason she hates( apart from the escort but I bought that before I met her). Even our 20 year old says he would be embarrassed with it but it's my dream and I'm going to enjoy it!!! It's far from immaculate tho mate that's why I got it so cheap but a concourse one only made 22500 at auction recently!! It was either the carlton or an escort cosworth but there's 3 of them locally so I went for the Carlton!
TheQ
Humm, a Canary yellow car, you do see a few around NORWICH!! Adrian Flux do my insurance as well, just under £300 for a modified 110 Landrover. Pass their place regularly on the way up north it's on the A47 just east of Kings Lynn. The landrover is Galvanised Chassis Galvanized Bulkhead, Galvanized frame front doors, Stainless exhaust, LED lights, Crystal Headlamps, 200TDI in stead of a 2.5 N/A engine, twice the horse power half the fuel consumption!! Discovery transfer box. with that I get 32 MPG!! As long as your water level wasn't as bad as an RAF Station I went to install equipment at. We went into the huge new multi million pound building to find two inches of water all over the floor. The water was coming up through it, luckily all the electronic equipment already installed was on 4 inch diameter wheels so you push the racks of electronics into place!! I like the viaduct, more inspiration for me when I've fought my way through to the site for mine...
Baimor
That landy sounds like a nice pice of kit Q! Yes i would recommend Adrian Flux to anyone. Fantastic service and a very reasonable price! I've got to admit to feeling a little bit like I'm sitting in a goldfsh bowl tho with the amount of attention the carlton gets!! I even had 2 traffic police do a u turn whilst I was waiting outside school and stop to talk about it. The eldest remembered them well when they came out and they were apparently going to be used by some forces as rapid response vehicles but the cost ruled them out! The youngest one who was around 25 wondered ' why had I put lotus badges on it when lotus only makes little sports cars"!!!
roddy
They were only making notes about you Mark. They probably have the Section 59 notice already written out for you. It only needs the date entering.
Baimor
call me ignorant Roddy but as I've not had many dealings with el plod, what's a section 59???
roddy
Look it up. It's an ASBO on cars and boy racers. A Section 59 notice would be issued for unsociable behaviour whilst driving. It lasts for a year, and applies to both car and driver. If either are found acting unsociably in that year, the car is impounded with it's usual charges. Commonly issued to the younguns who congregate in car parks at night and who like to spin wheels and perform donuts. No I have not collected a notice, but I know several youngsters who have.
