3D scanning for Airfix / Hornby

I find it difficult to get my head round the concept of 3D scanning and printing - something I feel I might have said before. The idea that we can now 'print' a wagon or some other item, whilst being a fantastic step forward, is just something that overwhelms me. I think there comes a time in our lives when, try as we might to keep up with the latest technology, we realise that it's already left us behind and it seems from there on in there's no going back. I've only just about got used to a smartphone but I feel it's probably going to be my last incursion into the modern day because my brains getting tired.

Seriously, it's amazing stuff and I've thought about learning more about it, if for nothing else but to understand it better.
