jonblakeney
Circle is now complete Here are a few shots of the completed steel .Over all it took five 7.5 metre lengths that cost $41.00 per length, and all the pieces were cut to length at the suppliers(the cutting cost me $10 for the first four lengths, the last length was cut for free as they got to know me better). Had some rain last night and surface rust is showing , but this will be taken care off correctly in the near future as the tops get aplied. Here are today's photo's,enjoy. Andrew
It's looking good, Jon. There shouldn't be anything sagging there, then. I can almost visualise the trains sailing round. As I may have said before, perhaps your trackbase surface will be able to have some curved edges to disguise the precise angles of the steelwork underneath. Keep up the good work! jonblakeney
Not a bad idea Andrew as the Villa board I plan to use can be cut with jigsaw ,handsaw ect.
jonblakeney
I decided to use the score and snap method on the villa board as there is a lot less dust that way All the steel is now screwed to the supports,I forgot how much pressure is needed to drill through 3mm steel with a power drill, dam hard work ,lol, 52 holes later and the jobs done. jonblakeney
Happy days All the villa board is laid and the track bed is now complete and not a sag to be seen any where, even though the villa board is 7.5 mm thick and fairly heavy. To me it's a dam pretty sight even with out the track laid yet The track laying gang (me) will be putting the track in as soon as is humanly possible so stay tuned gang. jonblakeney
Hi Mick ,I will be laying some rail today ,It's going to be a nice hot day which Will be handy so as to help get the rails expanded in the heat, although the track will be able to move a bit to prevent any buckeling

Andrew
Well done, Jon. A great leap forward. Those videos are exciting, especially the second one which looks most realistic. Great to see your hitherto indoor locos literally blinking in the sunshine, and the sound system makes a big impact. I like the authentic-looking concrete sleepers. No doubt you'll be spending a lot of time on the railway in the next few weeks getting more track down. Keep up the excellent work. One query which I can't answer from a quick scan of previous posts is: How is the villa board fixed to the angle steel, as you don't mention screw holes other than those to anchor the steel? Perhaps you can screw into the board from underneath, maybe using large washers to increase the contact area on the steel. All this may even encourage me to dig out my long neglected Aussie rolling stock...

jonblakeney
Hi Andrew, loved the pictures of your Aussie stuff. Today I am buying one left and one right large radius points so I can continue the mainline, the points will be for the passing loop. I won't be using up my track supplies on the loop yet as I want to make sure there is enough track to complete the main first I'll try to get some more pictures up this arvo. Jon. Andrew
Thanks, Jon. Over on the other thread you surprised me by saying "At the moment I only run American equipment ,but that will change as funds are found." I was assuming that your two impressive BHP-liveried diesels are Australian outline. Have I got that wrong?
jonblakeney
Andrew,I have three General Electric GE AC 6000's,they are made by Broadway Limited Imports.Paragon 2. All these engines were imported from the states ,just like the real one's in the Pilbra in Western Australia for iron ore trains, they have eight in total. I am pretty sure that they were all imported ready to roll The real loco's can be seen on you tube, just search BHP, GE AC 6000, Pilbra WA. The steamer is a Proto 2000,Heritage collection,2-10-2 Santa Fe Type used to drag coal trains,so mine will be doing the same. I have always prefered the look of the American Loco's over the rest ,but I am starting to feel a bit different lately. One day some Aussie made engines will make an appearance, but when I just can't say (funds, lol). I got quite a bit of track laid this arvo and may even have a completed loop buy tomorrow arvo I will post more pictures and maybe a video tomorrow , 11pm ,time for bed,I'm stuffed.Time to head for the sleeper car Jon.
