BACHMANN LMS Twins 10000 & 10001

Bachmann have recently released a couple of photographs depicting the engineering samples for their forthcoming LMS 10000 diesel locomotive and what a cracker it looks like being! I've mentioned elsewhere that since the release of the Dapol/Hattons version of the same locomotives approx 12 months ago, I'd refrained from making a purchase until I had seen and compared the two versions. The photographs of Bachmann's 10000 EP samples proves that to have been a wise decision.

There's a review of the Bachmann LMS twins in the November 2013 issue of Model Rail magazine where they recieve a rating of 93%. The review goes on to say "...Compared with the Dapol/Hattons model, there's a greater finesse throughout...." which is what I was expecting and is the reason I refrained from ordering the Hattons version. Shouldn't be too long before they are available.

Thanks to a very prompt despatch by Rails of Sheffield, my pair of LMS twins arrived today, only 24 hours after ordering them. I didn't get chance to look at them until this evening and with it being dark now I'll have to leave actual photographs and impressions until a later date. Looking forward to getting them out of their boxes.

Got a few minutes to spare - what can I do? Well, why not take a few photos of the new Bachmann LMS twins.... so loco's out of their boxes and heading outdoors towards Worsley Dale viaduct, here they both are.

Firstly, weighing in at 510 grams, there's the Bachmann 31-996 LMS 10000 in BR Green with Eggshell Blue Waistband

And secondly, weighing in slightly less at 507 grams, here's the Bachmann 31-997 LMS 10001 in BR Green livery with Eggshell Blue Waistband as before but this time with small yellow warning panels

I never saw either of these loco's in real life but I've wanted one ever since I first learned about them and saw the FIA Trains model some years ago. I believe the FIA model was quite expensive at the time so at a fraction of the cost this Bachmann version will do very nicely.

Yesterday I received my boxed set of the LMS Twins in the early Black/Chrome livery, manufactured by Bachmann exclusively for Rails of Sheffield. They've been a long time coming but boy, are they worth it. These have to be the most attractive pair of locomotives ever produced - they are stunning!

The loco's are housed in a nice wooden box with metal clasps and the Bachmann Branch-line logo on the lid face.

The loco's are housed in their protective plastic cases which fit nice and securely within shaped grey foam.

I couldn't resist posing them on the viaduct for a quick photo between the showers.....

...or standing them at the entrance to the loco shed.

Here's a broadside view of No.10000 with its LMS lettering

I've not had chance to run either of them yet as they'll need chipping first. Wouldn't it have been great to see these two preserved and adorned with this livery? A very special pair of loco's - well worth the wait and certainly worth the price in my opinion.
