george356
Has anyone tried the Digitrax SDH164D sound decoder? http://www.digitrains.co.uk/ecommerce/search/sdh164d-sound-decoder.aspx I have a PR3 USB programmer and am thinking about trying one of these decoders. I quite like the idea of manipulating your own sound schemes and uploading them to the decoder via the PR3. I am an amateur musician and have a sound studio (32 channel recorder, 16 channel mixer, sound effects processor, mics etc and think it would be relatively easy to take some existing sounds and enhance them. What do you guys think, have you haqd any experience of the decoder straight out of the box? How does it respond to sound tweaking etc?
mick
Sorry, can't help with this one George. I haven't used this type of decoder and as for manipulating my own sound schemes I really wouldn't know where to start.
george356
Well, I have just taken the plunge and bought 2 of these decoders from bobthetrainguy.com - £58.92 for the pair, delivered in one week from the States. The Digitrains price for these decoders delivered is £79.18 so I have saved around £20 on the pair. I now have to decide whether to replace the existing decoder in the Heljan Hymek I have just bought or try and find some more worthy candidates. There isn't an existing sound scheme to download for a Hymek from the Digitrax site so I would have to try and adapt/create one. I will report progress when I have decided what to use them on. essex2visuvesi
Have you joined the digitrax yahoo group? there are lots of sound projects on there http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Digitrax/ Have to register before you can download, but its well worth a read I played around with Digitrax sound decoders and put together a nice Hornby Western. The big issue I found with them was that they were quite a bit quieter than my other sound locos
