So, lets move from planning to layout actual!

2 weeks from first dig to first run

firstRunSunday_sm.jpgimag ... day_sm.jpghttp://craigcrane.co.uk/GardenRail/images/march_11/firstRunSunday_sm.jpg' alt='URL>'>

Ran a few bits and bobs. A bit of test filming.... some photography... will start to trickle it through in the coming days

GREAT FUN! I cant remember the last time I spent an entire day in the garden. I was probably 12!

That's my track cleaning rig. A pico rubber first then 5 mins of the above train seems to do the trick. Not soldered any track yet but I know that consistent power feed I'm currently enjoying wont last forever so need to get to some soldering soon.

Nice to see some photos Craig. The second one of the HST rounding the curve reminds me of my old layout. I had a curve just like that where I took the majority of my still photos. Funnily enough, towards the end I had only one track operational and spent most of my time running facing road as depicted in your pic!

I think it's good to be able to feel that age again.

It's funny how priorities change with time. I laid a few lengths of flexi this evening. It's not straight yet and it's not nailed down, but it is soldered. Soldering was mainly done in the shed leaving jus at couple of quick joins outside. Much easier.

Great shot of the APT, hope those chaps were in the Safe Zone ;)

So, the control box just allows me to do a quick and clean hook up to the up and down tracks. I plan to add more socketry as I get into points and signals.

I have decided I need to branch out to an end of line terminus, with four platforms. Two trains waiting to go, two trains running.

Also decided that I am going to invest in three more of the yellow track cleaning wagons. I gave the track a good rub at the start of todays session and it was as you would expect... slick. But as night fell, and the dew came down, things got a bit stuttery. Plonked on a TCC to the end of the rake and after just one circuit, the stuttering ceased.

So, with that thought, I may actually go with the End Of Line terminus , and a "maintenance" siding so I can bring out the Track Cleaners.

Some nice photos and a very enjoyable video. I'm intrigued by the "Apologies for shaky cam. I had the balance of the pole all wrong" in the video description. Do you have the camera attached to some kind of pole for the 'following along' shots? I enjoyed being able to follow the action around. I tried something similar on my old layout but without any kind of pole and found that I couldn't swivel my feet smoothly enough to keep the camera correctly aligned.

yeah, its a manfrotto carbon fiber tripop, and quite light. The Flip Camera is ok, but I need to counter balance the rig so that its a bit more neutral.

I use the tripod with the legs extended yet closed (if that makes sense).

Anyway, lots of tinkering and stuff, but had some fun today with the trains and taking pics on the iphone.

Found out that by running the Pullman TRain and a high speed, but then playing back as 50% actually gives a nice result in terms of speed and sound... May have to do that again but in daylight
