Clay Mills Junction
I don't know if anyone else does this, but I give my point mechanisms a light spray of GT85 (it's a bit like WD40 for bikes) occasionally. Mainly to preserve the over-the-centre spring. Does anybody do anything else or nothing at all?
mick
I don't think I've ever touched the point at the rear of the shed since I installed it - perhaps I should. I'm sure that a bit of lubrication on the spring will be beneficial but it's something I've never got round to doing for some reason. My other two outdoor points no longer have springs so I don't have to worry about those. Yes, that's the sum total of my outdoor pointwork! I have a number of points under cover inside the shed and they've never been touched either - again, perhaps I should! I've read somewhere that wiping a small amount of WD40 along the rail tops helps prevent tarnishing but I don't know if it does or not. I guess GT85 would be similar? chris
I used to put some silicon grease on the springs to prevent rusting. Fallen out the habit. Now have rusty springs!
