viewing forum photos issue

Recommended Posts

Hi Admin,

I seem to be having some difficulty viewing some photos on the forum and wondered whether I had a settings issue on my laptop.

On occasions I get this message in some of the forums:

Image5098.jpg

Is this something I need to address on my laptop to view these? I work on a ship and connect to the internet via satellite and wondered if this was something to do with my connection. I dont use photobucket so am at a loss as to how to view these images.

cheers

mark

Photobucket have changed the way that they operate, and many forums now suffer from the loss of pictures hosted there. Damned nuisance!

ok thanks Roddy. I take it then that this is nothing to do with my settings. Its more to do with sites like photobucket?

It's definitely photobucket. It really has spoiled a lot of long threads on forus.

From being a free site, they suddenly asked for quite a large subscription. They had become very slow and difficult to use, so when asking for money, everybody left them. Of course, if you don't subscribe, your pics are gone.

Yeah, most sites are either giving you a little bit free until they have you as a loyal customer, or they are using you as THE product by selling your data, selling things in ads to you, or even using what you do for market research, etc.

Lovely how this idea of a free communications tool that would reach world wide has just become another advertising machine.

I've seen lots of this on other forums but not so many on here, but yes, the message just represents a link to a photo that is no longer available.

On our forum I recommend users either attach images directly to their posts, or add them to the Photo Gallery and then insert them into their posts. That way the images are forever integrated into our site and there's very little chance of them ever becoming detached.
