  1. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

    Looking much better after levelling
  2. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

Evident in this view is my failure to keep the top of the viaduct level. I had to gently file down the highpoint once everything had dried
  3. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

The viaduct itself is built on a gentle curve which is just starting to become evident in this shot
  4. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

This shows the generous curve around to Low Shott viaduct
  5. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

This is a view from the opposite side of the viaduct after a few more arches had been added
  6. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

While the blocks were drying, I used a spare block stood at an angle just to prevent any movement
  7. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

The first five blocks have been allowed to dry and their arches have been shaped using a coarse file. Again, the blocks work easily although you do need to take some time rounding out the arches.
  8. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

This shows the continued track base from Low Shott Flatts onto the viaduct
  9. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

The first few blocks have been allowed to dry
  10. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

Using a standard mix of sand & cement the blocks are placed on a bed of mortar and the same mix is used to cement the blocks together where they meet above each arch. The viaduct stands on a concrete base prepared in advance.
  11. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

The first few blocks are cut and ready to be fastened together
  12. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

Once the angled cuts are made the surplus side pieces can be removed but kept safely for later. We will cut slices of block to create the viaduct parapet walls.
  13. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

This photograph shows the first two straight cuts made. The blocks cut easily using a normal handsaw. Two angled cuts are then required to remove the unwanted sections.
  14. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

Low Shott viaduct will be constructed using standard size lightweight aerated blocks with the blocks standing upright on their shorter edges. In order to create the curved arches the blocks need to be cut as outlined here.
  15. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

Low Shott viaduct will connect with the curved track close to Low Shott Flatts
  16. From the album: Construction of Low Shott Viaduct

This shows the proposed route of the viaduct and its entrance in to the shed which will later house an indoor station.
