  1. Roddy and David, thanks, never seen that site before. Clearly a nutter who would fit in well here, given the review of reel to reel tape players! I do like the look of that Mobius. "Minicam" is effectively a reboxed number 16 808 camera and the Mobius seems to be it's successor. I'll look into what we can build over the wet weekends.
  2. I just got sent a link... Most of the time, railway modellers take the real world and scale it down (ok, we can't really count the weekend railway in this, but most of the time!). Turns out google have clearly been watching this forum and scaling models up. On this forum we have various versions of WagonCam (here is our own Weekender KelloggCam) https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@46.510691,9.870173,3a,75y,227.84h,61.18t/data=!3m5!1e1!3m3!1sGjRujvX-1_YqiLReIZbjCw!2e0!3e5''>https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@46.510691,9.870173,3a,75y,227.84h,61.18t/data=!3m5!1e1!3m3!1sGjRujvX-1_YqiLReIZbjCw!2e0!3e5'>https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@46.510691,9.870173,3a,75y,227.84h,61.18t/data=!3m5!1e1!3m3!1sGjRujvX-1_YqiLReIZbjCw!2e0!3e5
  3. Cars on driveways talk. They talk about things they have broken recently so the others can join in and they discuss which bits you've recently made really hard to get at so that one of the others can make you go and get it! I've no idea how they do it, but they do!
  4. I've just found the video to go with Steve's post from 7th July Autotrain silhouette sm-SpUt2pPs "> " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
  5. PW Apprentice on page 2 is my girlfriend, who was taking a break from planning lessons (she teaches during the week) to come and play railways. As to still into the hobby, she says it's less fun now there is no track to lay but does enjoy finding random line side scenery to hide in and around when Steve isn't looking so that it appears on Kellogcam later. Rather than being into railways, she says she likes playing with interesting things, she has helped (in a useful sense) in getting the engine out of one of my cars before And she bakes good cakes
  6. Coloured pens and the most geekery we can work out how to use to get something that looks noddy but being worryingly to scale is the hope The pair of us have the problem of taking things a bit too far when it comes to data acquisition and processing, as will become apparent when WeekenderSteve comes along with a gradient based post.
  7. WeekenderSteve gave me a nudge about the thread, given a bit of my past. I started being interested in railways when I was small with both Grandads super keen and Dad mildly so. So, having had my 00 gauge indoors for 12 years, at the age of 16 I went and got a job working at the local parks railway. Much more fun than stacking shelves! I've put a couple of images below, the first is myself driving the 2-6-0 Willis Engineering narrow gauge prototype, with a good friend on the 0-6-0 tender Canadian standard gauge prototype. I ended up being passed out for steam there before I got my car license. http://www.miniaturerailwayworld.co.uk/images/Watford.jpg' alt='URL>'> Second is a better view of the 0-6-0, with me looking grumpy http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3577/3459280550_9d26c955cf.jpg' alt='URL>'> From that led into a bit of work with miniature railway supplies and looking after track work both at the park and private railways. Hence explaining when the Weekend Railway was being laid the slightly OCD nature of how I wanted to see the track go down (and why I was then volunteered to do such!). You see so many railways from N up to 18" gauge that just don't look right in videos or photos and given our plan was always to make Kellogcam I wanted to see lovely sweeping curves and none of the "Settrack jerkiness" even if you were going to see some stunningly... erm... interesting... permanent way with it. There are a couple of zoo's and theme parks I can think of around Europe that look like big train sets when you watch them run and I always think it's a shame. On the whole, I think we managed to capture it, though I'm sure if we ran the camera on the track right now it'd look pretty awful. Traingeekboy, that property is nothing short of stunning. Such attention to detail has given what looks to be a lovely railway that will last. Thanks for that video!
  8. Definately needs a Stirling engine... Though, I do wonder if the flame powered torch would make enough overall power, Steve, next time I'm round we can have a look at current consumption of various locos at 3ish volts.
  9. Because everyone loves deviations, I just spotted this elsewhere and thought of this thread: http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/events/events-leyland-p76-wins-the-peking-to-paris-2013/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Thanks doublecee, I'll have a look into that. I'm pretty convinced I've found a firmware that will drop onto the current camera but WeekenderSteve is worried I'll end up bricking it and he'll have nothing to record with anymore! I might steal it back at some point and give it a go, but having a second one for other duties wouldn't be an upset either.
  10. Out of interest, has anyone worked out the needed expansion gap for nickle silver for a given temperature range? I spent a bit of time a while back playing with ali and steel rail and coming up with some tables for expansion gaps for different climates, but haven't gone on a hunt for nickel silver expansion co efficient. EDIT: Just found the thread elsewhere discussing it... ENDEDIT Anyway, I've had some sleep and developed some photos. Camera decided it was going to break during the weekend which was a pain, but have a few. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7308/8938619949_d8d8cefca1_c.jpg' alt='URL>'> The level of civil engineering the PW Gang have to deal with! http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7386/8938623443_a30f07e0d1_c.jpg' alt='URL>'> The reason any of this exists... http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3720/8939248586_343cd13b90_z.jpg' alt='URL>'> Awesometreecorner http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2864/8939250764_4076de6806_z.jpg' alt='URL>'> Scary Bridge http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8539/8939251240_951bbdcc93_c.jpg' alt='URL>'> http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5327/8939253312_2e36c7fe62_z.jpg' alt='URL>'> PW Apprentice http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3672/8939257774_d349b4451d_c.jpg' alt='URL>'> We've tried to have no loco posed during photos, but camera been playing up. So, best make sure we have some locos looking like they are moving too! http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3786/8939261280_3740527d23_c.jpg' alt='URL>'>
  11. It was a particularly amusing weekend. I have a fair amount more video that I'll put up of the progression, but real world is somewhat getting in the way this week. The second camera is an MD80 clone from Deal Extreme, bought for bolting onto kitesurfing kit, bikes etc as it is super cheap (under a tenner) in case anyone has an interest. I'll try to get some of the footage from that uploaded so people can see the difference in quality. The subject really isn't my strong point, along with everything else anything that was to hand and not running away was utilised
