  1. Used to hang wet washing out in Moscow at minus silly temperatures. Within 20 minutes it was solid. Bring it in and stand it in the corner. When it thawed, it was dry. Wife started moving furniture one day and rolled the carpets up. Out into the snow and laid them out. Shovelled snow onto the carpets and brushed it in with a stiff brush. Then hung the carpets over a fence and beat the snow out, before taking them back indoors again. I have never seen such clean and fresh smelling carpets as that day. She did it here in England a few years ago. Into the front garden. Neighbours all thought she had lost the plot.
  2. Just because Napoleon wanted everything in units of 100? No. Bring back Imperial and give the kids some proper mathematics to think about.
  3. You like a project Tony. Have a go at drawing this one up. Newcastle Central. Newcastle upon Tyne. 🤣
  4. Lovely Mick. I think the last time I went between London and Edinburgh on a night train, it was steam hauled. That viaduct is certainly weathering well too.
  5. May I wish every one of you a very happy Christmas and good health and fortune in the New Year.
  6. Snow? This is today. 8 December. Unbelievable.
  7. I'm sure that you know this chap. He does motorised bogies, so probably has one where you won't see the motor in the finished article. I have no connection other than being a satisfied customer. http://www.kwtrams.co.uk
  8. Don't forget Buzzards, Kites, and Ospreys.
  9. Well done Mick. Isn't it a priviledge! Looks like my one which was identified as a Sparrowhawk because of the yellow eyes. Looks a lot plumper than my one too.
  10. That works too Thomas. It will gain a natural colour anyway. Forget about the door. It is still only a shed!
  11. I doubt it Mick. You will always find dust. I have always varnished Tongue and Groove timbers. I worked in Wales and have used up miles and miles of the stuff there. Ceilings such as your shed, and walls, in rooms up to 100ft long and 30ft wide. Always varnished. But as with everything else, it's your shed, your choice. Natural wood does give a nice warm glow. If you want bright, then paint.
  12. White ceiling and varnished walls, or just varnish the lot.
  13. Huricanes in the Northern Hemisphere, otherwise known as Anti Cyclones because they go the opposite way round to the Cyclones in the Southern Hemisphere.
  14. Two leds are also the same as a switch that is on/off/on. The switch toggle also indicates the direction of the setting.
  15. Do you use Facebook? If so, this group https://www.facebook.com/groups/railwaymodellers.comsbuysell/?fref=nf&__xts__[0]=68.ARBDcga6NFSVR5rW0rf30pLbM42Xf8aFjTH6ZS6JgTloL0o1T2lkQZw8aLzKAjNFQw3KM8lvhf8Nk5dLNxeCIR-hUDjf2r6ir7AARDvZ-GDhKx_2GXwFAC4el70rvAxgaVJJxAIIRViTA8RrKRAZ3jTUCa4uCFOfR_YIRs2Q5g92UC4BKydfd5e4lxLaj-RV5l7gfRku_N5JwuNyKC5y3VPfqsT9Flt8vxZTCHM&__tn__=C-R sometimes has O gauge bits for sale. Only yesterday, a meat van and plank wagon. £16 for the pair. Not yet sold as far as I know.
  16. Nice photos Mick. I must try to upload a photo taken the other day. I was in my armchair and something flashed by my shoulder and there was a crash at the front window. An unexpected visitor had come at high speed through the open back door, not realising that the view in front was in fact glass. I then found myself holding a stunned Sparrowhawk. My wife couldn't even get the lens cap off my camera, so the resulting photo is not as good as it should be. I am priviledged to have seen it fly off at the speed of sound when I let it go. Sorry that I am such a scruff.

  18. Looks great Mick. Hope you haven't forgotten all of those lovely weathered mineral wagons too. I bet they will look fantastic crossing the girder bridge.
  19. A ring of copper wire glued to the top of the chimney and painted will give you a lip.
  20. WOW! That last picture is impressive.
  21. When I was a small boy in the early 1950s (I was 70 last weekend) my favourite books were Sammy the Shunter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sammy_the_Shunter I wonder why Thomas the Tank became so popular when Sammy just disappeared?
  22. Instead of a slide switch that needs some effort to move, why not use a mini microswitch that only needs some sort of wiper to activate. It's still on or off after all.
  23. I have always really struggled to stop smoking. Help from Doctors, or Pharmacists, or anything else, and within a couple of hours I would be bad tempered and headachey. 55 years I have been a smoker, and just over a month ago, with no previous thought, I stubbed out a cigarette and thought to myself, "Why do I do this?" Haven't had a cig in that time. Haven't had the cravings or the mood changes or anything at all. I wonder why the difference. I also have close to £200 in an old wallet, that would have gone to the local tobacconist.
  24. Thanks Jimbob. The night service would have been well past my bedtime I'm afraid. Interesting stuff. Have you seen this? http://www.eastbank.org.uk/ferry.htm
  25. I can remember the Golden Arrow during the day when I was a kid. Spam can loco and Pullman carriages. I can remember the French wagons lit in the carriage sidings at Victoria during my commuting days. They don't seem much different to our Pullmans apart from the livery.
