  1. I think it's a good idea as I mostly buy secondhand stuff anyway. The only way to see if it got any use or not would be to try it and see
  2. At least you came back with a few bits and bobs that you wanted, I always like to "get" something from a show, no matter what it is, it makes it all the more worthwhile if you can add something else to the layout when you get home. What did you mean by "Toy" layouts? As good as some of them are I am getting fed up with seeing micro layouts, I agree there are more and more at exhibitions these days, and while I have no doubt there is a place for them within the hobby I personally find them incredibly boring, if it came to having one of them or not having a layout then I think I would be very hard pushed go down that route. I hope I never have to put it to the test!
  3. It's not a bad little model Griff, I did glaze the windows and as I said I will add some more small details when I place it on the layout. I'm sure it will look just fine,...................perhaps!
  4. Yes Mark, it could very well TAKE OFF!
  5. WOW Mark, I thought things were bad over here! Sorry to hear about your new toy, I bet your'e copping some grief from SWMBO over that one! they never understand! The only thing I really don't understand at all is why was your van at the bottom of the river in the first place?
  6. Great idea Mark! I think it could even be a "runway" success! ................do you see what I did there? "RUNWAY" success! "Runaway".... oh never mind!
  7. Hi Griff, I still have the stabilizer feet in the box. I know the crane is not that good as a model but it's only an "incidental" scene. I will add some more details to the crane deck when it's placed on the layout proper. I'm glad you like it though.
  8. Hi Danny welcome to the forum, take no notice of Mark (Baimor) he's from Rotherham! and anyway, as a result of his DIY/Model Railway building efforts I doubt he has the correct amount of fingers left to count on any more!
  9. No Mark, it's still not arrived yet, still suffering really, really hard though...........just in case Anyway, I've been tidying up a bit in my workshop and pondering on what you said about a pilots license.....................I think it would be a good idea ...........you know broaden your horizons.............see the world from a different perspective..................bit like "live" Google Earth! .............and God forbid, should the worst happen,................................it would be just like falling from a LONGER LADDER!!!!
  10. On a more serious note!..............Yes I know! but really mate If I got the chance to retire I'd be gone like a shot, unfortunately, for me, it's not going to happen, I have got another 8+ yrs to go, not that I'm counting Over the last few years I have seen far too many of my mates and work colleagues retire permanently. Which makes me wish to spend a good bit of time at home with my family doing what I want to while I still can, without work getting in the way. Sounds a bit morbid I know, it's not meant to but you know what I'm trying to say. If you've got the chance grab it with both hands (Arthritis permitting! ) Also it will have the added advantage for you in so much as it will lesson the chances of accidental high speed descents from tall LADDERS
  11. No, not yet, but I've been really bad!!!!!!! send MORE!!! I need to REALLY SUFFER!!
  12. OK thanks Mark, the sufferings really terrible at the moment!
  13. Our Dave is 28 he's always been interested in railways, I had the train bug implanted at birth! I did the same with Tom he's 16, It's my youngest, Sam, he's 10, I just can't get him off the bloody computer! he came outside on Sunday for all of about 5 mins, complained that it was cold, and said "Anyway the graphics out here are crap!" My daughter, Natalie, loves trains though, we are planning to build a Hornby Dublo 3 rail layout together, she just loves the old tinplate rolling stock. Oh yes she's 13! Amazing isn't it? Her in doors has given up!!!
  14. I know what you mean Mark, it's good to see something running isn't it? I had my eldest son wiring up some point motors on the outdoor sections this afternoon, he had a day off work and he has not had much experience of soldering, so I set him on....................he only burnt his thumb once! To be fair though he did decent job in the end, and more importantly he said he enjoyed himself. I am hoping to get some outside scenery done this year, one of my other sons had a "Go Pro" camera for Christmas and he has done a few videos including a cab ride and it sure does highlight the layouts failings!! So I have a few things to alter/improve now, as if there wasn't enough to do!
  15. Hi Mark, first of all,........ yeah you can blame me, cos I don't gi................no I'd better not say that!! ..............cos I don't think we did anything that wrong, ok so technically we were off topic, but I think deleting posts is a bit extreme in this instance. But Hey, it's his forum so he can do what he likes I suppose! Secondly, congrat's on your successful completion of the first circuit of your layout, I'm sure you will have many more to come. Well done chap!
  16. I may have to start looking for a new hobby, who would have thought that model railways were so DANGEROUS!
  17. Yes, you certainly do think outside the box chap! I'm more than a bit concerned though..................if you're going to show us how not to take aerial photo's of your layout from atop the ruddy chimney, then..................................you're going to need the bloody LADDER again to get up there Shall I contact the Emergency Services Now so as to put them on alert? They could come straight over and pick you up off of the lawn or even rescue you from the chimney if you get stuck.................but...........that would mean another sodding LADDER!! As an after thought, should you find yourself plummeting earthwards again, please try to crash-land in such a way as to avoid any damage to the railway!
