  1. Back from Korea.... Interesting country. Right then, so the garden is in a bit of a mess, and in need of some TLC. Expect updates soon
  2. Maybe some moss. Once that area establishes itself and it beds in, it will look great.
  3. I think chipping away at that brick, some dark weathering and maybe some signage will make that tunnel mouth sing!!!
  4. Thats looking great! Can wait to see the first full run!
  5. I'll have to wait until I'm back in UK before I can answer.
  6. Progress is slow. I've been in South Africa filming and am now in Seoul.
  7. Nice sunny day today, and decided to test the new WagonCam This one shoots at full 1080p HD, and its currently housed on an old / new Dapol Fyffes Banana wagon chassis. I need to find a better chassis to counter track rumble finding its way to the onboard mic. Anyway, this is the most basic of tests, with me having no time to do a post winter storm service on the layout, I decided to just push it around. Twigs, chippings and bird crap all feature as the main cause for several derailments "> " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; PS: Did I share the old Palitoy adverts I found on film with you? I cant remember.... http://vimeopro.com/palitoy/palitoy-for-the-boys" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://vimeopro.com/palitoy/palitoy-for-the-girls" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
  8. interesting approach... keen to see if this holds up to task in hand.
  9. Seeing the bird feeder getting filled made me think of these old things from Hornby... Thats got me thinking! Nice video, layout looks ace
  10. fair points. From my own perspective, having it raised to around knee level has helped me in two ways... Its given me greater flexability on how I film the runs, and getting good angles when not using wagoncam, and also saves the knees and back when taking care of daily care issues and maintenance. Worth considering, and of course, you can always plant around the raised areas... Here is an example from my own garden https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-V3-y_fx5XoQ/UdHi_PkXmVI/AAAAAAAABdk/cbmulrZzx-8/s640/blogger-image-1388125927.jpg' alt='URL>'> at 6 foot 5, im really grateful for not having to get on my hands and knees to clean track, and in your case, that dust and sand will become less of an issue.
  11. Looks like an interesting start. My only reservation would be when that much starts to dry out and get dusty. You could find yourself servicing your loco's on a very regular basis. Are you keeping the track at that level? Or is that just to show where a knee high wall is to be built?
  12. 30 degrees? Now your just showing off
  13. Im a big fan of smoke, wether its from a smoke gen or the real deal with Hornby Live Steam. Check out some of my vids here : http://vimeopro.com/palitoy/garden-railway" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I also started to play with an american smoke oil (the brand escapes me) that comes in numerous flavours, my fave being Coal Smoke. It really is bang on right! "> " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
  14. Cool. I think Zero 1, some 35 years after release would prove nothing more than a frustrating experience in the end and would only be nothing more than a labour of love.
  15. Unfortunatly, the sun is still quite low here, so even on dry crisp days, the track is still wet here, and only dries just before dusk. It certainly is a hobby for the warmer months for me.
  16. Ahhh, I know this part of France well, as my wife is from Treguier. Love the layout. If your track is bonded to a bus, its very well hidden. I love the organic nature of the layout, and I anticipate its surroundings will mature splendidly all around it over the spring and summer. Well done. Im assuming its all DC analogue for now?
  17. Well, where do I start? Firstly, year one on this forum saw a huge influx of posts, updates and videos. Then.....? Nothing. Of course, this is mostly down to the fact that I was working on a film that took up 5 months of the year and every available spare moment. Add to that, as well as working on other peoples films, Im also trying to get my own off the ground. If I recall, I think I posted one video on Jan the first of 2013, and then a couple in June.... and thats about it. Quite a contrast to the year that preceded it. Of course, Im always in the garden, as I like to have a smoke in the evening, so often check that buildings are all ok, and solders are in tact. But one of the reasons I think my activity lessened was because I became increasingly aware that a neighbour was (quite literally) taking the p*ss out of me whenever I was in the back garden having a run. Im sure you know the score... Playing with his choo-choos etc etc. Nothing really ever phases me, I work in an industry that relies heavily on criticism etc, and I take it on the chin, but something about that one snide comment just killed it for me this year. Whereas last year I would MAKE the time to have a run, this year I just couldnt muster up the desire as much. Its a real shame, as having a garden run was a real tonic, as I could just switch off... no emails, deadlines etc. Just me having a bit of fun. Anyway, this year is just as busy, if not busier. So I doubt you will be seeing that much of my garden. But I do have a new project to undertake out there and one that will give me a new feature that will no doubt be the focus of any new videos. A new station, on the other side of the garden, on a new loop. It will be based on the Scenecraft Sheffield park buildings and I hope that it will be quite pretty to look at as Live Steamers pound their way through. Two winters in, and I see that many of the choices I made in terms of buildings and electricals were wise choices, but there are a few things I would change... so I hope to implement those lessons into this new loop and station. The biggest issue for me is UV bleaching from the sun. There is a slight but definate fade on all the buildings. With the Sheffield park stuff being so nicely textured, I need to ensure that this fade is abated. Other than that, all is well. I have too much new stock to list. Some Bachmann, a lot of Hornby (who I am also doing a lot of work for at the moment ). I hope to showcase some of the new stuff in the coming weeks. But from March onwards, I wont be around until at least August when we wrap on the latest film... by which point I cant think of nothing lovlier than just shutting out the real world and getting back to putting the "OO" back into "COOL"!
  18. Yes, Hornby were the market leaders throughout that period but Mainline and Airfix GMR were far superior in terms of quality modelling. However, I still prefered Hornby's Motor.
  19. direct links (but they are up on that original link... you just have to scroll to the bottom of the page and then go through till you find them, or use the search tool up top and look for Mainline).
