  1. Thanks Ian. I met one of our members on Saturday at the Hornby Stand. Stannier. It was nice meeting a fellow Garden chap
  2. Well, as I am sure you have all read by now, Hornby are to release both the Adams Radial and a cool Class 71. Of course, both of which started out with a Laser scan by my company (Motion Associates Ltd). Whats a laser scan? Well here is a video that I did for the Hornby release. "> " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
  3. not sure if you were there at Warley on Saturday, but I had a great time on the Hornby stand to help assist the 2015 announcements. I was on hand all day to discuss the Laser scans I did of the Adams Radial and class 71 Electro... "> " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Seeing both in the Garden will be a very sweet, rewarding experience.
  4. welcome to the forum. Always great to see a new member, and also nice to see a person openly come out as a Non collector. I started out here saying the exact same thing... but somehow the hobby has managed to suck me in 100%. You should set up a new thread over here http://oogardenrailway.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=50" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; This is where all those layouts that are being built get followed. This thread is in the section for those layouts that have reached a state of completion. Granted, they do have a lot of progress updates etc, but have made that transition from planning to first proper train run. cant wait to see what you do with the garden
  5. http://www.airfix.com/news/airfix-2015-ipms-scale-modelworld-announcement/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Heres what I do when I'm not busy on a film set...
  6. when I first saw this thread when it was just a one pager, I thought no, no, no, no, no. But I cant help but say yes, yes, yes & yes to it all now. Its really grown on me. Its mad, bonkers, eccentric and plain outrageous... but it works! This has been a fun topic to follow. I salute you & your endeavours
  7. The natural yogurt thing was from Mark Founds TV program. He suggests that or a bottle of your pee. Glad you went with the former
  8. I seem to be living my garden railway aspirations vicariously through other peoples setups at the moment, not having had enough time on hand to enjoy my own. But Mick, its always your posts that find me just aching to get out into the garden. I love the way you have inspired so many of us with both your original layout and now this one. Its really developing into a great experience... not only for its owner, but also for us observers. Great work as always.
  9. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tZzBiNL_pJQ/VA8BtQOu9pI/AAAAAAAABhY/s6sdGGD4KZM/s320/LTPannier_01.jpg' alt='URL>'> Picked up this set from Gaugemaster as an impulse buy last week. Always loved the LT red pannier, ever since seeing one in the 78 Hornby catalogue. This Bachmann version is great value for money
  10. Id certainly set up a thread in the planning section if I were you as this section is for established layouts. So, Hornby Track... Its ok, but the plastic sleepers dont fare as well as the peco, and you will probably find yourself replacing sections within a year or two. Also, depending on the size of your layout, you should really let the wall govern your layout, not the track, so you should really look at using as much flexi track as you can. If your using points, then the Hornby ones (as fine as they are for indoors) will eventually disappoint. Looking forward to reading your planning post... and welcome to the forum
  11. I'd certainly be up for visiting any of the Surrey / Sussex layouts, but due to work commitments I cant stray any further.
  12. Thanks Mick for setting up this new section. Hopefully we can all share some green tips. I know for a fact that I will benefit greatly because my fingers are more accustomed to a keyboard than a flower pot. So, its been bugging me for weeks, I would be in the garden having a smoke and cuppa, and suddenly I would hear what sounded like a small pebble being dropped at height. Living on the beach, I just assumed it was the Gulls, doing their thing. Then yesterday, I found out the real cause. We have a couple of plants that look like they bud raw coffee beans... and these beans literally explode and send their shell flying a good ten feet or so. Its amazing. Now I just want to know if its a good plant (looks like it may be) or just a rather pretty and clever weed. Also, Mrs C and I had a chat about deadheading the plants when they wither. Shes adamant that you just pull the heads off. Im more in favor of a clean snip. Any thoughts on whats best? Would also be great to see some threads here with recent finds at the garden centre that you might want to share
  13. Ive ordered mine. The main set, and 5 additional coaches so I can run it as if it went into service. now its just a case of waiting
  14. the Bachmann announcement didnt really excite me that much. Theres not much there that I would want to add to an already overstocked garden railway. I might feel a bit better when I see the catalogue in my hands. Even now, the yearly catalogues are something I look forward to, just like when I was a kid. With regards to the P2... Ive been doing a lot of work for Hornby these past two years, so when they asked if I wanted the P2, they also asked which version. I have opted for the Hi Detailed on that ships later. I certainly think the TTS sound is a great new feature, as the video shows, and when you weigh up the cost of a proper sound decoder, its a no brainer... but for me, I dont think sound really fits in with my GR at the moment. Neighbours spend all summer in their garden, and also, being on the beach, we get a lot of seagulls screaming. This is why you wont get much sound in my videos. So, back on track... I shall reserve judgement fully on the Bachmann releases when I have a catalogue in my hand, a cuppa in the other, and a plate of digestives on my lap.
  15. This is annoying, and somewhat ironic... its just too hot to run anything at the moment. The track has been almost molten these last few days, and the layout provides very little shade, other than early evening...
  16. To the rear of our garden railway is a big tree too, and we couldnt justify killing the tree just so I could have a wall built near it, so I went for a different option for this area, namely the posts and timber. Looking at your dilema, Im wondering if a similar approach may work, giving the main root a wide berth. This is where the civil engineering aspect of our hobby really comes into play. Maybe the wood ant, with their millions of years of construction know how was actually offering up some assistance He's probably looking at the camera wondering how best to convey to the human that he knows a few million guys that could help out. Anyway, I digress. Cant wait to see what solution you come up with as Im a big fan of your layout.
  17. Those little sachets of silicon that ship with camera's etc might come in handy as they would divert the moisture that will build up away from the chip etc
  18. They do. I would Love to have a full rake of carriages weathered to the same finish. THIS is how I remember the carriages to be when I used to commute. Opening the box and sliding them out somehow sent me back 20 plus years, recalling that odd dusty metallic smell the carriages had inside. Worse so if you could only secure a seat in or near the smokers carriage.
  19. Id better get my skates on, as my thread seems to be getting lower down the page... Some new bits in this week... https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-0HE2rta2mCc/U8VlLMczT4I/AAAAAAAABhE/bWg2H5FPtdY/s640/blogger-image-1501072115.jpg' alt='URL>'> https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-_bqlEjzgiRQ/U8VlJvsKEEI/AAAAAAAABg8/b1s5stwDcJc/s640/blogger-image--595760629.jpg' alt='URL>'> A Heljan 33 and the new Bachmann Works coaches, which are awesome. No time for a run, as I have just let the day run away from me.
  20. Quick question... How are your new car locking switches wired? Im just testing 4 Peco switches on a 4 way traintech points decoder. I worry the peco's wont last a year outside on my layout. Thes car switches seem ideal, but I see only two wires, not three, like a normal point motor.
  21. Looks so cool. One thing I cant remember... are you DC or DCC? CC
  22. Slight annoyance that I cant run DCCSound at slow shunting speeds near the station as the crossovers (Peco express) have a mini short, enough to interupt the sound. Any thoughts, suggestions or remedies greatly appreciatted "> " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; [vimeo]98968181[/vimeo]
