  1. You'll find that this model is in the Hornby Railroad range...hence the price. They are actually re-modelled Lima products from a couple of decades ago. Funnily enough, I was looking at this model last week and considering getting one (DC). Bit concerned about the wheelbase, possibly a little large for my railway. (Remember having problems with the old Mainline "Peak.")
  2. My forage into Ebay seems to have reaped rewards having now acquired the chassis parts I needed. Whether it's worth chasing up Lima parts I'm not sure but it's the nostalgia kick I've fallen for. Then, as mentioned, you come across things you might just fancy buying. Now, I've never had any chocolate and cream coaches, but saw some for sale. Had to bid...and then won with a 13 quid bid. Now, you can't argue with that can you? Shipped over today and are pretty near perfect.
  3. Mmm...thought it had all gone well. Now one of the sellers has refunded my money. No explanation. Weird, so I emailed him, but still no answer. His star rating is showing full.
  4. Well, managed to turn my hand to Ebay bidding. Now got both parts. One at reasonable price, the other a little over the odds. Then of course, fell for some other stuff that caught my eye. Might have to treat Mrs Rossi to something!
  5. Excellent stuff Jim. We certainly can't request anymore pics from you! Gold stars all 'round and a big tick!!!! Rossi (suffering in 90 degree heat... Sorry!)
  6. Bit of a long shot, but... I've been clearing out a few boxes of old railway stuff and rejuvenated a couple of old Lima motors. The problem was when I searched for the appropriate chassis they were broken.
  7. Hi Tony, we're situated about 250 miles from NW coast of Africa. Now entering summer and our time zone is GMT (same as London). Quite happy with the station. Able to hold a few trains whist others go about their business. Next venture will be the top end of the railway (house end). It was built about 2 years ago and is now showing deterioration but as we all know with the great outdoors, the weather takes its toll.Plus, the railway is in regular use thanks to our temperature and it's nice to have some different scenery added every now and again. Thanks also Griff for the remarks. You building yet?
  8. A good day for trainspotting from the bridge. Maybe the young couple aren't that bothered though!
  9. Hi Tony, No it's not Bougainvillea..We have that running wild up the front and back of the house! Petals everywhere when the wind blows. It's the one next to it (like you say, a wax type thing). The shoots were almost 3 foot long. Now cut off. As for cardboard/card kits, they stand no chance out of doors permanently: I always use stone or plastic buildings.
  10. looking at this scene a couple of weeks ago (previous pics) there's been remarkable growth in this plant. No idea what it is, but those shoots have projected themselves as though on a major task.
  11. This part of the railway has been neglected for far too long. Varnished/painted chip board disintegrated (never use this stuff out of doors!). Amazingly, it never gave problems with the running but after seeing videos, my mind was made up...especially with visitors coming. We have spoke about the maintenance aspect of outdoor modelling, and for any new comers, I think it's necessary to first of all accept the ongoing and never ending work. Also, it stops us getting board with the old scenery. I also wanted to take out the severe "S" bend leaving the viaduct. Below, shows a somewhat gentler curve as the pairs of lines diverge...and a tidier situation. And just to show the dedication of visitors, our good friend Tom couldn't wait to get a paint brush going at the station end. And the pay was good...The going rate of bottles of healthy Reina beer.
  12. Thought about this for a while now...How to break up the viewing more on the railway. Trains appearing and disappearing. So... Voila! A bridge over the main station (as in real life). Left over wood, glue and a good imagination and it all comes together (a la Blue Peter) Griff may not get that one!! Seems to work, anyway.
  13. Been my number 1 rule from the beginning: NEVER DISCARD TRACK!!! I have a couple of bags full of off-cuts and damaged points. Shipping track from the UK to here is costly and only ever done in dire emergencies when I have to bite the bullet and pay outrageous import duties. (I'm pretty sure they make the figures up because the couple of times I've done it, the bottom line has been different.) Hence, rule number 1.
  14. Flowers coming out all over the railway. Splendid, and I'm no "green fingers" Old canal now gone 'cos it was looking tatty after a year or so. Guess what? Another one takes its place! Sea breeze getting up, so time to finish maintenance and take a beer!!!!
  15. Mmm...few memories here. I bet some of our members have got one or two tucked away in the loft.
  16. Griff, Sorry. missed a reply. Don't use roofing felt. front of Rly is a type of breeze block, so no more warps! Station area now some type of plastic/regurgitated wood thingy. Saw it in the DIY place and thought it would do the trick. So far so good. Hope you're keeping well...and get modelling!!!
  17. Been meaning to do something with this end of the railway for a while (since the last upheaval). Top end, next to main station. Progressive afternoon. Still loads to do (like the tunnel mouth area) and landscape the far wall where the road disappears to! And this one. Time for drink poos now!
  18. This was posted some pages back, but to save sifting through, here is the video again with the sound modules laid in trucks behind engines. battery life is approx 3 hours and the sound isn't actually ear bashing, but it does give a little atmosphere to the railway.
  19. Danny, I think those buildings look absolutely terrific, but the main advantage...They look as though they'll stand the test of being outside. As mentioned earlier, it's your railway, do as you want...a lot of us do!!! Also, they are a bit different than the usual Airfix signal boxes etc that most of us still retain. Look forward to seeing them amongst some garden foliage. Rossi
  20. Love it when we have a regenerated post and what a coincidence. Just came across a 1973 Hornby Railways catalogue. Inside was this snippet on the Princess Elizabeth showing off her smoke unit.
  21. Keep getting those "Build your 60's railway mags" from friends in England, so thought it was about time to assemble some of the models. As you can see, it's pretty thirsty work. And a look at the back of the main station, seeing how the elements have taken the cleanness out of things. Compared with last years photo's of this site, it definitely shows how much maintenance is constantly needed on outdoor railways. Need to model end part of station tunnel (left of above photo) to add some of the new buildings and I've got an idea of putting in an extra spur in the tunnel (for train holding). Not sure when, as we have a steady stream of family/friends still coming this way. One grandson just left to go back to uni in S.America...another one arrives this Sunday. So, probably more socialising than train operations, although, it's surprising when people arrive for BBQ, they want "a go" on the railway. Strange!
  22. Hi Shaun, Nice to see a new face on the forum and another layout to make me envious of garden space. Not sure about all the track cleaning though. Good time to start as well with spring around the corner for you people over there (hopefully). My last venture with foundations took me to concrete blocks and plastic type decking which I came across in one of our garden centres. Touch wood!!!! Doing ok up to now. I know the temptation is there when you come across a decent piece of laminated ply but the elements will soon sort that out ,although I still have pieces down in the tunnels and one piece on the viaduct (which I know will need maintenance shortly).
  23. So, my one of my books written 4 years ago still rings true. http://t.co/sMjtPV1k03 Baimor, hope your son is ok and I can understand your feelings. Sadly, nothing actually gets rectified or suited to the innocent parties. "Come on in, we're not quite full yet" UK do-gooders. Must remember this is a railway forum! Don't get me going!!!
