  1. Video is excellent Nick. Glad to see this update on your railway... where you been since January 2013!?
  2. For my twenty-five years service I got a portable CD player, it was 1994 and of some use back then! I also received a small plaque mounted on wood which said "congratulations on your retirement"!
  3. Thanks for your comments Ian. Most of the trackside vegetation is made by tearing up green pan scrubs and fixing in place using a hot glue gun. I buy the scrubs from various places such as pound shops, bargain stores, supermarkets, ironmongers etc. This way you get a variation of greens. I have also used plastic plants intended for aquariums, especially a large plastic moss ball which pulls apart into hundreds of bushes. I got mine from 'The Range' but I suspect they'll be available at other aquarium specialists and also online. I have also used 'Ratio' lineside fencing. I use these products as they come and don't add any further weather protection. I have been looking at 'id' backscenes which are available from various outlets. They are photographic backscenes printed on water, scratch and tear resistant Polypropylene. Not sure about resistance to fading though. http://www.art-printers.com/''>http://www.art-printers.com/'>http://www.art-printers.com/
  4. Good to see progress at Whinny Hill. Nice work.
  5. That sounds feasible to me Tony, definitely worth experimenting with. I used latching relays for that purpose but what you mention could be a good alternative. Ian R
  6. Here's a couple of pics of the tool I use for cleaning the girder bridge and tunnel. Basically it's a piece of dowel attached to a piece of cable trunking holding half a Garryflex block.
  7. Glad you got the motor working satisfactory, the set up is excellent. You could make discs from plastic with a hole saw. Cheap chopping boards from the 'bargain' stores are a good source of plastic. I don't think that it really needs to be a disc though. Wouldn't a straight piece, say 10mm wide, do the same job?
  8. I doubt that Mick will agree to that Craig! It'd be nice though. It's all looking great Mick, from the viaduct and bridges to the excellent weathering on your sixteen tonners. I think that since you've fitted them with instanter couplings that you should now fit them all with sprung buffers!
  9. Well done with the operating system Chris!
  10. Bridges are looking great Mick. I'm with you... Two bridges without a central support would look odd... Not to mention unprototypical!
  11. Excellent footage of a superb garden railway. Images from a mobile phone are better than the top range camcorders of the 90's! I believe that you can actually talk to people on them too!
  12. Excellent work on the lift out section Chris. Good to see so much happening lately at Amblethorpe. Now you can relax and watch the trains go by.
  13. The point motors are working perfectly and I thoroughly recommend them. You can operate colour light signals simultaneously by incorporating a LATCHING relay, see page 5 of the 'Operating Points Outdoors' thread. The ones you have found in Melbourne are exactly the same. I'm not sure what the extra wires are for on the five wire ones, they may be of some use. Don't worry if there are no brackets, you won't need them anyway. Ian R
  14. And I'm another of the three, welcome from Ian R.
  15. Welcome Kristina from the K&WR. If you need advice on anything just post it on here and someone will probably be able to help. Good luck with the new layout. Ian R
  16. Not something I've done before Iain. Building stuff yourself and doing it for others is a bit different. Not sure if I'd have the confidence! What coach is it?
  17. I ran the newly built Alexander Models kit built Q6 on the K&WR last weekend. It runs really smooth and is whisper quiet. Although I haven't tried it it should have plenty of pulling power as it is heavy and is very low geared.
  18. Hi Mick, Do you think the bridges ought to be a different colour so they have some contrast against the garden greenery? Maybe grey or red oxide? Ian R
  19. Excellent quality that Craig. The station lighting looks great, now you just need to find time to add lighting to the coaches! Ian R
  20. Great work Mick, that station is going to look very realistic. I'm liking the long curved platforms.
  21. I got my pan scrubbers from a few different shops, some are a better green than others. As you say Griff, some are too blue and after being exposed to sunlight for a while they actually turn blue!
  22. It's a while since I bought any new locos although the Q6 is just about ready. I have a few locos awaiting weathering including a Hornby B1, Bachmann Compound and 4F. I am currently fighting the temptation to buy a Garratt. It is a little before my period but I think it would look good on the K&WR, I'd need another 70 or 80 mineral wagons though! 200 quid is rather a lot to justify spending all at once, can anyone think of a reason to tell my wife why we should have one!?
  23. Thanks for your comments. That drawer storage system looks good, at least you don't have to unstack boxes to get to something at the bottom.

    New Hornby Set

Oops! No wonder it's not in the Hornby catalogue... It's a 'Hornbly' product!
