  1. Hi Tony, All of the construction materials are here but unfortunately my wife collapsed recently and was taken to hospital by ambulance. She is home now and the specialist are trying to get her medication right. So sadly my Garden railway is on hold. I love the ironing board idea I will give that some thought thank you. I hope you Railway is progesssing well and your making good progress. You will have to give me lots of tips on wiring and soldering lol not looking forward to that part lol. keep me updated Take care Deano
  2. Hopefully very soon, starting to get impatient now lol 😂
  3. Hi Tony, The track will only be of the ground by the thickness of a brick, Hopefully I will be able to expand in the future (if the wife lets me lol). I will struggle to bend down to the track with my health but I have been thinking about a section of track leading into the shed then having some sort of pulley system to lower trains from my work bench onto the track in the shed then out on to the layout. cheers Deano
  4. Building materials have arrived today, construction will start over the next few weeks. My railway will be basic to start with 3m by 3m. The track will run along decking boards that are covered with roofing felt with bricks underneath to support them and keeping them off the ground the railway will be DC.
  5. Hi Tony, Sorry to hear you didn’t get good news from the specialist hopefully your doctor can help. take care Deano
  6. Hi Thomas, Progress looks great, I love that you can run trains inside and out Cheers Deano
  7. The area I will be using is very shaded, I will leave expansion gaps in the track and will be using pressure treated deck boards with a brick base and see how I get on. cheers Deano.

    New purchases

i couldn’t resist a few Thomas bits for when my Garden railway is up and ready.
  9. Hi Tony, The weather here is warming up slowly and no rain today but more forecast later in the week. Hoping for a few dry weeks so the garden can dry out. Easter is going ok lots of family round yesterday and having a quite day today, hope your enjoying your Easter break. wow that ship looks like a huge modelling challenge looking forward to seeing pictures soon. take care Deano
  10. I plan on going ahead with Decking boards idea, And plan to cover the boards in roofing felt. My garden railway will be on decking boards that are raised with bricks to keep decking boards of the ground. I agree with comments about bending down to run trains at ground level will be difficult especially with my health but my wife and daughter will help. I love the picture of railway around the shed but sadly I have measured up outside but sadly don’t have the space needed. Deano
  11. Thanks for the reply, That looks fantastic and lots of hard work but well worth it. I understand what you mean about the risks of using Wood but it does seem quite common from online videos I have watched. I found this picture on line this would be great for me no bending down lol
  12. Hi Tony, Hope you having a good Easter break, I like the the way you have done the curves I am hoping to do some templates later in the week if the rain ever stops lol. Did you leave a expansion gap on your track if so how much? hopefully you feel better soon on your new medication keep us posted. Take care Deano.
  13. Hi Tony, Thank you for the reply and sorry for all the newbie questions, I like your ideas regarding radius of curves. Going to try and make some templates soon and see how they look. I love the tracksetta tools very good ideas I want to run small tank engines as I not a huge fan of tender locos so hoping to get away with using 18” or 24” radius tools what do you think ? It started to rain here again yesterday afternoon and still has not stopped today ☹️ Garden is so water logged will construction ever start lol. Hope you are feeling better Tony and thank you for all your reply’s and help much appreciated cheers Deano
  14. Hi Tony, What method do you use when measuring out radius of curves? i have purchased a few of these Tracksetta tools
  15. Hi Tony, Yes the weather has warmed up a little but today guess what more rain lol sorry to hear you are unwell Tony try and rest and have a good Easter. cheers Deano
  16. Good Afternoon, During planning for my layout I was intending to lay a concrete base, But after watching some videos on YouTube I have seen a number of people using treated decking boards with roofing felt on top. I have a large amount of roofing felt left over from having a new shed roof fitted and wondering if that was the way forward as it looks easier to secure track to and running a level track. Just wonderd what was more popular concrete base or wooden? cheers Deano.
  17. Hi Mark, Thanks for the reply, Yes you are correct that is Woodend I am hoping to create something similar. Cheers Deano
  18. Quick question, In the photos enclosed in this post what radius curves do you think they are? Thanks in Adance Deano
  19. Hi Tony, My wife’s new medication is helping but still not seizure free sadly, awaiting appointment with another specialist. Not much progress with my Garden railway 😪 apart from my shed has been made water tight I had a new roof fitted and new lighting inside ( I plan to store to buildings and locos inside). Extra cctv cameras fitted covering the area when my railway will be also ordering new locks for my shed. My Garden was drying out but today rain and lots of it and the possibility of more snow to come 🙁. Hopefully should dry out soon so construction can start. Good of luck on Tuesday. Deano
