  1. Good to hear from you again old buddy. Still a lot of work to do yet, had to lift the tunnel section more than I had planned as my long carriages were catching as they came off the bends and I'm hoping to tunnel both of them. Then the plan is to cover it all over with some artificial grass to blend it in. My apologies for the duplicate pictures. It's the first time I've posted photos on the new web site, still getting used to it.
  2. Some photos of the removable centre section of my new tunnel. Still a few things to do yet and the last picture shows what happens when you use ordinary ply as opposed to exterior grade.
  3. Well, have finally managed to get some work done on Whinnyhill, with the start of a new tunnel section. The water damaged areas are still serviceable, so going to leave them for the moment and enjoy some running time. Will get some new photos up as soon as I can.
  4. Thanks for the info guys. Think it's going to be a matter of trial and error.
  5. Anyone know how I can limit the voltage to 9 volts, the limit for a Dapol track cleaner? I have a 4 function Hornby chip that I intend to fit but can't see anywhere in the instructions where I can limit the voltage, as anything above 9 volts can cause the solder to melt to protect the motor.
  6. Hi Guys, I've recently returned to the Forum, being a member on the last site for many years. I was totally surprised to find we had moved house after not visiting the old site for a while. When I tried logging in with my old details, it was coming up as not recognised? So have had to create a new account. Over the past couple of years Whinnyhill has been taking a battering from the elements but is still in working order albeit a little water damaged in places. Hopefully I'll be able to get a bit more use this year, especially as I've been investing in some more locomotives. It's good to see some of the old faces still going strong and I look forward to chatting to you all again this year. New site looks good.
  7. Me too, traingeekboy. Made a big mistake using some scrap plywood that wasn't marine ply, so have some water damage to my station section. The plan is to rip that out this year and re-model with some expansion in mind. Still milling things through in my head at present waiting on the warmer weather coming before I get started.
  8. Haven't been on the site for a while guys. Weather last year prevented me from doing much on the layout. Now retired so hoping to do some major work this year. Will keep you all posted as soon as things improve.
  9. Hi Mick, I kept getting all sorts of hieroglyphics coming up and sometimes it wouldn't respond to what I was trying to do. I had to unplug it a few times until it reset itself but mostly it was slow to respond.
  10. The sun came out today and so did the trains. Had a few problems with my Hornby elite controller going wonky at times, but got there in the end.
  11. Well, all track issues are now sorted. Had to replace a couple of lengths of shorter track with some lengths of flexi track. Glad to say trains have been running again. The new platforms took a bit of work shaving down the edges where the carriages were catching and derailing. That's what I get for laying the track first and building the platforms around them. Managed to get them painted up today, so progress is being made again albeit slowly.
  12. Hi Mick, yes I've used wood for the platform bases which have now had a coat of exterior varnish, they'll then be topped with plywood and painted. still not had the trains running this year yet, have some track work to sort out first, where I was getting de-railments last year, due to gaps too big between some of my flexi track. Weather wise everything has mostly held up well. Some slight water damage to the plywood base mainly between the joins but will be easily sorted. At the moment it's getting the time and weather to work outside, usually when the weather is good I'm at work and when I'm off it's raining....sods law or what?
