  1. Hello Peter I used this PVC rigid foam as a trackbed and track base. Since I used part of my tracks as a slab-track, I used black expanded PVC of 5mm because at the same time it imitated the asphalt used in Germany in the spaces between the tracks at slab-track. And it was precisely this black material that was sometimes very distorted or shrunk. I used the same material in light gray or white for the substructure under other tracks. There were actually no problems with the white one, the light gray one was then distorted in some places. Instead of PVC, I've recently started using a British product: Medite Tricoya Extreme Durable MDF. This is a water and weatherproof MDF board (the manufacturer gives a 50 year guarantee) in 6mm thickness. However, the material is also available in various other thicknesses from 4 to 20 mm. In the picture you can see how I still use this black PVC foam in the transition from the bridge, while the switches behind it are already on the new Medite Tricoya Extreme Durable MDF (which I partly painted black). Regards Thomas
  2. But you can get pretty close to such a scale model. It's a lot of work, of course. But I'm confident there will be a time. And the plants may not be to scale, but their colors are very lifelike (😜) so you can never get them in a replica ...
  3. Hi! Very impressive what you are showing. What is your experience with PVC rigid foam panels? I also used them a lot, but I found that, especially when they are colored in dark colors, they heat up too much in the sun and then deform. Which is why I have now strayed from installing them in places where a lot of sunshine is. Regards Thomas
  4. I did a trailable turnout with a Peco Y-turnout. Simply attach a spring to the throw bar and to a screw next to the route. However, the tractive force of the spring has decreased significantly over the winter, so I will soon have to install a new one.
  5. So I use the Fleischmann PROFI track (have a lot from childhood and adolescence) only inside in the shadow station. I would not recommend this for outdoors either. The production of the track is also discontinued for H0 due to the merger with Roco. The Fleischmann brand is now only in use for N Gauge.
  6. Stazione San Gioachino Germano sulla Terrazza in construzione. I think it didn't need a translation...😁
  7. For my eyes it looks like an upgrade of the scenery! 👍
  8. It is typical. Instead of being able to go to my patio station at a fast pace today (after all the material is now available), the hay fever has hit me so badly today that I only feel short of breath despite using all the medication and sprays I have. I'm sure tomorrow I will be fine and I can't do anything because of the holiday tomorrow ... 🤪
  9. So, weather is good, progress also...😁😁😁
  10. It is available in 4mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 19mm and 21mm. I got 6mm. It is easy to saw and it holds pins and screws very well.
  11. First work with the new material. I am still very excited.
  12. Getting materials seems to be not so easy as we were used to before 'Corona'. I made a 400 miles roadtrip today to get my special Tricoya MDF Plate. And I got it!
  13. After rigid foam PVC sheets and rigid PVC sheets were not heat-resistant enough for places with a lot of sun, acrylic and plexiglass became brittle and since no servos can be screwed onto Styodur, Medite Tricoya Extreme Durable MDF really seems to be the solution. Compared to HPL, it convinces with its lower weight and above all because it can be processed like normal plywood or normal MDF. The plates are available in a thickness of 4 mm to 21 mm. This actually makes it possible to build a model railroad outside the way you are used to from inside. And even if you sawed the material or drilled holes in it, no further treatment is required to survive outside.
  14. I made a roadtrip of about 400 miles/640km today and I got (yes!!!) two plates Medite Tricoya Extreme Durable MDF waterproof with 50 years guarantee. Medite, a British manufacturer, had previously sent me a sample, which I kept for 6 days in a row in the filled sink for test purposes and the result exceeded all my expectations. The Tricoya Extreme Durable MDF has neither warped nor swollen. It is a material made for our purposes. Pictures: The sample after 6 days in water. My plates. The sample in the sink.
  15. So coloring it in gray would certainly have a great effect. Otherwise, the cable could of course also have been embedded in sections in the cement between the track bed and the rocks.
  16. Hello Mick! You should find a solution for the blue cable. Because the rock looks really good and the cable somehow destroys the overall impression. Looks like a gas pipe that has not yet been buried...😁 Regards Thomas
  17. I would recommend that, one of my untreated blocks turned into sand over wintertime.
  18. With the steep slope of earth on the left, I would be worried about rain and erosion.
  19. Building a big helix in top of a small one is much more work as I estimated...
  20. Hello Mick! The sliding door is on the left, the one at the back is a wardrobe. If necessary, you can roll it away or remove the bottom drawer and then crawl through it. Otherwise you can walk around with caution on the rails of the lower level. The helix will ride about 25cm higher than the level whose base is now visible. This is about 110cm above the floor, the level you can see is 85cm above the floor. Regards Thomas
  21. Recommissioning of a long disused route. It's amazing what the tracks and the power supply survive without damage.
  22. But indoor I make some progess and will soon start with the installation of my big helix.
  23. You use the extremely expensive Styrodur adhesive from UHU and then it eats away the Styrodur anyway. As a result, I was allowed to tear out the whole route. Two switches are scrap, two more need repair. Now I would like to use Medite Tricoya Extreme MDF board instead of Styrodur and PVC to rebuild, but I can't find a dealer in Germany who has it and cuts it. That means probably the end of the building season outside this year ...
  24. Unfortunately, the virus will not do us this favor.
