  1. The vectras now done. Goes back for retest in the morning at 9. It was only 2 rear bushes but they aren't available so it was 2 complete rear arms. £225 supplied and fitted so not too bad Roddy mate. As I got the reg number of the car that hit me and a picture of him speeding off the police have seized the car that hit me and fortunately my insurance covers me against being hit by an uninsured driver. Just the bumper and headlight on the van so no big worry there. The Carlton?? DON'T F@$KING ASK!!! The outer sills have been "remade"!! From fibreglass matting and body filler! ! Both rear arches have more rust than the F@$ KING titanic!! The front wings have kept Isopon P38 sales up!! And on and on and on!!!
  2. this joke is going to last a while!!!
  3. What a shit week!! The vectra failed it's mot! The body shop called me today to go and see some of the horrors theyve found under the bodykit on the Lotus Carlton!! Looks like its full of rust!! I've not manage to get out to work on the garden layout and a bleeding uninsured drivers hit my van!!!!!! DRIVER NOT DIVER! !!
  4. Thanks Griff mate. How do you "adjust" them then? Just force them outwards on the axel?
  5. You could include an "accidental" scene on your layout too Nige. Perhaps involving a plane!! On a serious note hope the fingers are ok matey!
  6. I know it's taken ages but the offending coaches were Lima if that helps Griff. Regards. Mark
  7. God! How come I can't seem to finish 1 layout and you have 2 under construction? Looking good mate!
  8. Why is my attic full of Christmas decorations, suitcases, et al and yours is full of trains???? hhmmmm! I think I may need to investigate this further! I suppose if we get rid of the kids then we won't really need Christmas decorations!! On a serious note tho Mick that's looking good.
  9. go steady with the timber Mick. We don't want any more fingers in that box!!
  10. Hi Danny. Welcome mate. You said anyone that can add up should know your age. You sound very young for a 58 year old!!
  11. TGB is back!! The ladders are referring to some of my "aerial" photography mate!! And don't even mention jigsaws!!!! ( or planes if you're called Nige!!!) Joking apart hope you're well fella!
  12. Yes I know what you mean Roddy mate. It's the doctors advice I'm taking before I end up with " severely restricted movement"!! Yes, I've missed out a lot on our eldest growing up. Yes, I've done weeks away from home to pay the bills. We lost absolutely everything in the 2007 floods. We've gone without holidays at times. But, on the plus side, ive still got my Mrs and kids and some people aren't that fortunate. Like you, quite rightly, say, I'm alive. I've got hobbys. It's not all been doom and gloom though! In fairness we've had our share of good luck too. We did really well out of the sale of our last house and er indoors had a very good win on the irish lottery which allowed us to buy this new build. Sure, we've had to go without a garage as that would have added 12000 to the price and we just couldn't stretch to that without borrowing which we were keen to avoid and I reasoned I could build a better one for less cash should I want to. I know what you mean about missing the banter. I've worked with some real characters I've no credit, no loans, etc. I've missed nights out with the lads at times when I was younger as I was paying into 2 pensions and an endowment ( remember them???) I'm just hoping I can now enjoy life a bit. Er indoors says I've spent so much time making other people's lives comfortable building extensions, conservatories, fitting boilers, etc, etc ( which in fairness I've been payed well for at times ) that I should now put myself first for a change.
  13. I don't know what's happened to that money Nige if you've not recieved it yet mate!!
  14. yes Q I'm sure there's a growing list of jobs she has in mind!! Time will tell!! Upon reading this post again she says it could be construed as being boastful. This is in no means meant to be boastful at all and to anyone misreading this I can only apologise. It's just that, reading between the lines, quite a few of the forum members would appear to be retired and I just wanted to know from experience if it's as bad as I'm expecting. my daily driver is a 13 year old vectra 1.8 and I've just got excited about a 23 year old car I've bought. All my track, engines, rolling stock, etc for this railway have been bought used. I've never owned a brand new car and have worked 7 twelve hour shifts to pay the bills so I don't really think I'm in a position to "boast"!
  15. haha! I knew what you'd say about ladders Nige thats why I included it in the post! I know what you're saying though. I missed a lot of our eldest growing up when I was a heating engineer due to being away from home a lot. It's time I can never replace so I do enjoy the time I have with the little 'un! ( and trains!!) I can now look back over the past 12 months or so and have to admit the job is gradually becoming too much! I'm thinking of doing my pilots licence. That way I could teach you how to use a plane!!!
  16. Thanks Mick! ( I think!!! ) I do understand where the mrs is coming from but I just can't imagine not working!! Had to laugh though, when I showed her this post, she said just think how much time you'd have with the railway if you weren't working! Any spare money is on its way to you now Nige!
  17. Yesterday I finished what may be my last large building job!! In the last 12 months I have found it increasingly more difficult to cope with scaffolding, ladders, etc due to the arthritis. I'm 45 in June, have a 3 year old house with no mortgage, a moderately good savings account and a pension I can cash in when I'm 50. Er indoors earns enough to give us a comfortable, ( not rich!!), lifestyle and she thinks, seeing the pain I'm in lately, that I should retire before I do any more damage to my back. I've never been out of work for longer than about 3 weeks and the thought of retiring quite frankly scares the hell out of me!!! Anyone else in the same situation? ? Is retirement as rubbish as I'm expecting?? I know life is what you make it but surely there's only so many holidays you can go on and so many trains to buy, etc.
  18. You're lucky Nige. I only had a little battery operated 00 gauge lima set when I was younger and it never really made that much of an impression on me although I really loved playing with it so technically me and my 6 year old are new to the hobby. He's really enthusiastic though and just wants to play trains all the time now we have a circuit
  19. You got your eldest involved????? How on earth did you achieve that Nige?? How old is he? Our eldest is 20 and doesn't want anything to do with " an old man's trainset"!! Our 6 year old absolutely loves it though! I wa still trying to get him off it at 7pm!! I think I'm going to spend more time watching him than running trains myself but the father son time with him is priceless.
  20. Cheers Nige. I know what Micks reasoning was in fairness. If someone posts asking for help they don't want to be trawling through lots of unrelated chitchat ( even though our ramblings are highly amusing!!) Got to admit seeing my first circuit go so well has really inspired confidence and renewed enthusiasm mate. Best keep our humour between our own posts now eh??
  21. Yippee!!! It works!!!! Today I've finally managed to complete 1 circuit of my 3 track railway and I'm pleased to report no derailments or power loss issues! ! I just need to work out how to open a youtube channel so I can put my video on!! Big, huge, massive thanks to all on this site for all the help and advice during construction. All the long days and nights have really paid off now as there's nothing better than running a train along a track you have built yourself. I'm by no means an expert and still have lots of scenery to finish as well as my 2 other circuits but I'd just like to say to anyone else new to the hobby that taking your time and getting it right first time will pay dividends. Follow the amazing advice that our seasoned modellers give you and you won't go wrong. Although it may seem like your taking 2 steps forward and 5 back at times stick at it because when you run your first train it makes it all worthwhile. Thanks again chaps. Mark
