  1. Hi Griff thanks for the pic on the Atlas cleaning car, yeah look pretty close to Boeing specialised wagons, the cleaning car is pretty expensive, can buy a loco for the same prise and take a bi of work to modify too, will check out the prices over here. Haven't done much work on the 737 fuselage train, been busy sorting out the duel tender drive Flying Scot, which I have running puling 11 cars could push 16 and working back on the layout.
  2. Ian, how are you feeling now, has the soreness gone now and have you had all either stitches or staples out. That is very interesting about you leasing a motobility car, you will have to take some pics as I put a search in for them in the UK and was shocked to see how well a heard you guys are in disability cars, all we have over here is vans and some cars can be modified at a huge cost , no cars like you have such a choice of, I supposed you could import them from the UK. I saw one car that would suit as, now the shock, my son has terminal disability MD and he is in n electric wheel chair 24/7 care, we did have a van but it was a 93 model and needed a lot of work done to it which wasn't worth it, he is 28 years old and doing well for his condition, still able to play computer games but losing that ability. The compute is all he has to keep him going, of than going out to the movies. ( Duchene Muscular Dystrophy ) Did some more work on tunnel 9 module yesterday on the lower track before tunnel nine coming along nicely, can only do a couple of days here and there on he layout, be good if I could spend a whole week, but that wouldn't be fair on my wife being stuck looking after him, we do get carer support and more hours now. Tony.
  3. Here is pic without any copy right I found so hope it will be ok to post on the same pic I took on the last post of the latest update pics on Tehachapi loop tunnel 9 module on how this module will be like when finished, post 129 pic 3. You just can make out the first flange oiler box, should look pretty good when finished the module will be a piece of art in its own right, slow going.
  4. Griff, awesome you tube on your favourite steamy, seeing the two big boy class if that's what they are double heading was awesome also, pulling 100 coal wagons, I have a friend that pulled 107 wagons with two Athearn big boys at the train club I go to , let me know if you want to see the link In the second link, the stream lined steamy which I think is a J class , NSW Railways copped the design and came up with the famous 3801 steamy, Pacific class I think. Ended up doing some work on the scenery of TL tunnel 9 module bottom track cutting, coming along nicely, posted four pics. Yes I do like the American steamies especially the big boys hooked now, pure awesome and would like to own a working model, one day, yeah this is a fun post .
  5. Full steam ahead, change of plans for today, ended up getting the mower out and mowed the grass, after that got stuck into working on the bottom track cutting before tunnel 9 TL, coming along nicely, bugger forgot to screw in one screw, next lot of pics I will sort that out and the brown grass matting will be in place Coming along nicely, wont be back on the module till maybe Wednesday., woodturning tomorrow. On the right side of the track where I have screwed in another piece of ply to widen for the excess road to the two flange oilers with the solar panels, the bottom deck with the track can slide in and out for storage in the garden shed, took a lot to work out, bus wiring will be hidden also. Tony
  6. Hi WeekenderSteve, awesome track work weaving through the car a lot of work there and the pics are so clear too, what brand of camera are you using, the video clips also but its the second bottom video clip of interest, the big blue box is that your transformer, what's the AMPs of it, must be big, I have two 6amp trannies that will be controlling my layout, plan to have four throttles using rotary switches, probably never use them good to have, looking at having one to switch to DCC but do the wiring in such a way the DCC take over the DC on that block. Keep the good work up and pics flowing love those pics and your construction of the track decking, awesome. Tony.
  7. Have finely found out from another US friend in Oregon, he said the boxes with the solar panels are flange oilers, I had a look on some other pics and the oil on the track before tunnel nine Tehachapi loop was a dead give away, looks like I will be adding more track ballast to add more realism to the scene. here are two links with the pics of the flange oilers, pity I couldn't find anymore pics of the flange oilers at TL, if you go back to page 13 post 119 you will the solar panels in the two pics. http://yosemitephotos.net/main.php/v/rail/p5030006.jpg.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://coxy.squarespace.com/coxys-n-scale-and-railroad-bl/?currentPage=91" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Amazing what is out there when you find the right words to search. Hopping to get my wood lathe out to make some pens in wood and plastic, plastic is very nice when polished, my other hobby, intend to turn some modern fuel tanker shells as they are easy to model, the shell is the frame, just need the bogies and couplers magic stuff, pics to follow.
  8. Griff, I finely tracked down what those boxes with the solar panels are used for at the Tehachapi loop before tunnel 9, with the help from another US friend from Oregon, he found they are flange oilers, he said the oil on the ballast inside the track was a dead give away . http://coxy.squarespace.com/coxys-n-scale-and-railroad-bl/?currentPage=91 By the look at it now will be adding ballast to the bottom track before tunnel 9 module that will give the scene more realism. Amazing when you find the right word to search what is out there, couldn't find any more on the TL with those flange oilers Cajon pass has them too and you will find that big curve near you will have them too.
  9. Here is a link to how all the different section where put together n the Boeing 737 at the Wichita plant to the final fuselage being wheeled out to be loaded onto a flat wagon. http://www.cnet.com/pictures/the-great-boeing-metal-airplane-shop-pictures/?ftag=ACQ63afa6d" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Right click on the arrow and heaps more pics, it was good to see when Boeing sold the plant was taken over by a private company. Winter is over and I am back working on the outdoor layout, only have a few months of nice weather window before the heat of summer sets in and can't work outside, will move inside onto projects on the go finishing of the 737.
  10. HI Griff, that was sad to see smaller roads squashed by bigger companies, UP took over a few other roads too Southern Pacific, not sure what happened to Western Pacific and Pennsylvania line disappeared, SOO line is still going and can't forget Chessie System disappeared too, I had a couple of locos with that colour stunning colour scheme black with yellow. Same happened with BN and SF with their merger , new colour scheme, like the latest wedge tail colour scheme of BNSF. Other here all the state owned and Federal government railways were privatised, heaps of private companies running railroads, can't keep up with some very nice colour schemes. Be adding an update link on my Boeing page on the Wichita factory building different sections of the 737 and if you like trams I found a link to the Brisbane trams and present day Brisbane sad to see them go, went on the very last tram ride in 69, be on my Camdale post.
  11. Hi Robert, I will only putting ballast on the spiral which is in under the pergola, be a long job if I did the whole layout. Great you sorted out the join problem with that roofing felt, Mick had an issue with his on his layout, it would for sure cause worse problem over here with the heat we cop in summer, not just the heat it's the high humidity that is the killer too in summer. Just got a link from a friend of the Wichita plant link close to you very interesting, must get pretty hot in summer with all the floor fans I saw in the pics, click on the arrow on the right of the pic and there is heaps more. Might get a chance t do some work on the TL module today, getting my wood lathe out tomorrow to do some turning, haven't done any since late last year, got to keep my turning skills up, got some pens to make and put together, pics to follow, plan to turn the shells of the modern tank cars out of wood plus storage fuel tanks and silos http://www.cnet.com/pictures/the-great-boeing-metal-airplane-shop-pictures/?ftag=ACQ63afa6d" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If you like trams I have a link to Brisbane's trams on my page be the last post and on the link present day Brisbane, lots on that link worth a look Tony.
  12. Thanks Robert, yeah tunnel 9 module is coming along nicely, going to go so far with the scenery and move onto the next section, don't want to get bogged down in one area, want to aim to get the trains running and then move back onto finishing the module off. Looking forward to seeing more of your progress pics also. Tony.
  13. Hi Griff, got an interesting link that will blow you away, never thought Alco build B loco in that class . No worries Ian , UP EMD9 loco, I would love and the B unit also, nice looking loco, over here we have modelled on the EMD/9 a couple of diesel classes will get a couple of pics our famous NR class diesel loco was modelled on the Dash 9 about 4,000 HP, links might be better. http://www.brasstrains.com/Classic/Product/Detail/032303/HO-Alco-Models-UP-Union-Pacific-C-855-A-B-Diesel-Set-61-60B-C-P" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; We have GM class-- CLP class-- S class and B class which is a double cab loco and we have Alco locos the 44 class modelled on the Alco PA class and in South Australia looks more like the P/A, called the 900 class in South Australia. Here is another link of SA loco class pics. http://www.railsa.org/motive-power/diesel-locomotives/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Enjoy Tony
  14. Just meet another bloke on FR forum, he lives in Brisbane and he in involved in the big stuff 1.1, apart of the construction of the new branch line from Petrie to Kiparing Brisbane, about time and continue onto Redcliffe. Will have to ask him what scale he models , if anyone loves trams, here is a good link of the history of Brisbane trams, the last one ran in 1969, was sad to see them go, all to do with development and a lot of the streets when built for trams where they had them. http://www.yourbrisbanepastandpresent.com/search/label/trams" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
  15. Hi ba14eagle, I agree what everyone is a saying very sad news to see such a great railway come to an end, I too loved your videos and pics, times change. I hope you find a new garden soon waiting for a new railway to be born, best of luck with the future. Tony from Australia.
  16. Hi Griff ,what does NW stand for North Western, most of us would of had in our collection that class diesel loo, I had a SD/9 with the same shape shell. Here is a pic from he same bloke I got the TL pics from of an interesting loco, at speed going by the back ground in the pic. Here is another link of the wind turbine train cars. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/rslist.aspx?id=TTYX&cid=27" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.oogardenrailway.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=90&image_id=3104&display=popup' alt='URL>'> http://www.oogardenrailway.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=90&image_id=3107' alt='URL>'> I had trouble uploading the pic as an attachment so I had to end up loading the loco pic onto my gallery and copy it that way. How is your layout coming a long Griff done any work on it and have you run any trains, I am trying to get the TL tunnel module out the way, no work on the module today dentist appointment at midday broke a tooth hopping it can be saved. Getting back into woodturning this weekend got 6 pens to turn for Uncles and Aunties, make a good gift, no point in tying to see them at the flee market thanks to the Chinese rubbish flooding the market, will take a pic of my lathe not a dear one at the bottom of the range , does what I want it to turn. Using the lathe for the hobby too, plan to fuel storage tanks silos and modern tank car shells. Tony
  17. Hi Andrew, is the first steam loco your friend is talking about being ugly, I hate that too when a friend beats you to it first and buys a heap of them especially on eBay. I am only interested in a couple more steam locos now mainly American, finely got my duel tender drive tenders working together on the Flying Scot, had to end up permanently wiring them together, was having too much of an issue with the pick up on the tender wheels to get the tender torn on it's own with out the help of pick up wheels from the main drive wheels on the boiler. Pics in my post with the Flying Scot pulling 11 coaches one restaurant car in the middle and a parcels and break coach plus 8 coaches, could of pulling 16 cars, was staring to have trouble with the different couplers, be easy to change just two of the ones on the coaches as they have that box push in type coupler. (page12) You can go straight to my page at the bottom of this post Camdale Layout. Makes sense with not having the tank car up close to the steam loco, had a look on the net and what I saw the tank cars were a few cars back, you can do what you like on your own layout ,here is a link of a pic I found., probably the best way to go when sending bigger pics on the forum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rail_freight_transport#mediaviewer/File:Carnforth_wcml_geograph-2188751.jpg
  18. Hi Jon, you can go to my thread called Camdale layout and go to page 13, glad you liked the video on my friends big boys, one day I will get one of those locos, but before that want to get UP's FEF 4-8-4 steamy 844 running numbers has the same size tender as the big boys, to double head with my DD40AX 6900, got three of those locos now. Also have another link o can check out on Boeing737 fuselage train, will be working on a 757fuselage too for a train load and down the track looking at modelling a wind turbine transported by rail, will be only transporting two wind turbines as that will be pretty long train with the blades and the base the turbine sits on. http://www.oogardenrailway.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=90&image_id=3104' alt='URL>'> They are huge going by the size of my friends car, I will be buying two HO scale kits quicker way to go in stead of having to scratch build them. Tony
  19. Hi Ian, you can pull what you like behind your UP F/7 loco as it did pull passenger trains till the early 70's where Amtrak took the service over, and pulled freight after that till they were retired or Amtrak could of bought a lot of them at first they were using UP F/7's till they were painted into Amtrak colours and the FP/45 class came into service. Tony.
  20. Hi Ricky, good feeling to see the trains running round on your layout for the first time , awesome feeling, are they screws you are using to hold the track in place, was wondering how you planned to hold the track to the pavers, good job How big is your layout measurement wise, good idea having the yard in your shed, half my layout will be in under the pergola, keep the good work up and pic flowing. Make the most of the warm days before your winter comes in, do you get snow in where you live, it is coming into my summer in Australia , got to make the most of the nice few months before the heat hits, 48c degrees was the hottest day we had in February, no work done out side , in the nice cool lounge room , 28 degrees with the air-con going. Tony.
  21. Hi Rossie good to see you back on your layout, did the warping have any issues with trains running as the real railway isn't all flat either. Be a big job fixing the warping going by the pic, as Griff said may need some bracing, square metal tubing be the way to go, are few of the guys over here in Australia have done that on their outdoor railway, I don't have to go to that trouble as my layout isn't permanently set up would like it be. Our winter is over and back in full swing working on my layout before it does get too hot outside, only have 4 months, in between getting back into woodturning, have my own lather, got a stack of pens to do, they make a grate gift, more pics posted on my page.
  22. Thanks Mick, yeah still have a lot of work ahead to get the module to look close to in the pics of Tehachapi loop, here is the pic I got permission to post from the photographer on the forum all that weed growth to add to add on the top of both cutting, wont go that far as it is no good getting bogged down on one area of your layout, always come back later. I like the 4x4 , will be out looking for one in HO scale, have asked the bloke is its his car and what brand of car it is,looks like a Toyota. Be working on the track and scenery on the sides of the track leading into tunnel 9 this week, they are right about the hobby classed as art. Griff do you know what those gray trees and plant growth are, isn't winter or is it going into Autumn where the trees lose their leaves, that must be a radio antenna on the tunnel mouth, like to find out what the sola panels with the electrical boxes are, why they made that road access for. Three is the same on the other side of tunnel nine a road been dug out I say for maintenance on the signals and that is only resent too, I have yet to work out how I am going to model the other cutting, check it out on Google earth. Tony.
  23. Hi Ian that would of sorted him out then I have a letter from my chest specialist with his letter head to say why I have trouble blowing out on the RBT breathalyser test, called over here, I have heaps of trouble blowing right out suffer with asthma, One Police woman said to leave the letter on the seat if I get pulled over again, have no worries I don't drink and drive, the letter is always in the glove box anyway. How are you going today ok, when do you get either stitches or staples out, over here the hospital 's doesn't do that anymore have to your local doctor for them to do it. I had a waisted afternoon at the hospital eye clinic for a follow up check on my right eye after surgery 6 weeks back, my wife had to come down too as they dilated my eyes, can't a few hours after the drops going in, missed out in tea because I had to get to a meeting starting at 6pm, by the time I got home the drops had warn off, had tea later after I got home. Tony.
  24. Pure awesome Jon, sounds like the neighbour was competing or being a pain. Yeah it was a perfect weekend up here too so I made the most of it and finished modelling my first dirt road, turned out pretty good on my Tehachapi loop tunnel module, still heaps more detail to add, Here is the you tube link of my friends big boy 4014 double heading with another big boy awesome site, enjoy Tony.
  25. Have finely finished the first road on the loop very happy with the outcome but still lots more to do, tree and small shrub plans and weeds on the side of the road. That plaster mound you can see is the start of a small hill, if you go back to post 118 you will see what I am aiming at, will look pretty good when finished, once all the grass is down on both sides I will move onto the rest of the spiral and go back to finishing off the final touches. Tony.
