  1. Hi Ron, how are you going after that super storm hit the Blue Mountains, heard a late winter wonder land too, did you lose power at all,, wonder how Jon is going, Sydney copped it bad also, we copped storms too, as a big front, not as you guys, could of done with the rain though. Did notice the Blue Tongue at your mums home is a different colour to ours. Ha, Ha I like what you said to your mate and when he chassed you around the garden shed, had to laugh. How your layout coming along, I have just about finished the second module that sides into the Tehachapi loop tunnel 9 module, had to buy some more plaster today at Bunning, all I have to do now is finish off the scenery with touching up with those weed plants and small shrubs to tidy up along the side of the dirt road, then I can move on to the finish the rest of the spiral, pics on my post. A work mate used to call me son also. Tony.
  2. Hi Ian, half your luck in picking up the Challenger, what brand , will look good pulling those UP yellow coaches, nice with the SD 60 too Proto 2000 are very good locos and big with detail, you are luck to have those toy fairs is it close by, over here they are call buy and sell stores and mostly run by train clubs. Have a rake of Con- cor UP yellow 85ft coaches 9 0f them with the baggage and Post office van with one box car, was half the price of Walther's Up coaches, still cost me over$500, but I do have in Walther's a rake of 10 Amtrak super liners, now hey were very dear over here some of the super liners cost $90 each have the locos to match, cost pretty cost t $1000 for that train. Then I discovered eBay and could of got the coaches for half the price, bought one more to make up the 10 car train . There is no train clubs in Ipswich now only the Workshop railway museum has a train show every year I don't go tho them as it is pretty dear to get in and not very good, will have to till May next year when my train club put on their train show, can pick up some good bargain's, again you have to know the prices as some of the second hand stores can over charge for second hand stuff. One thing I haven't got is cabooses to run behind my DD35's, have a rake of 18 40ft box cars and tanker wagons, after more mixed wagons to make up a good manifest train of that era 70's. I am more interested in getting Athearn's UP FEF 4-8-4 running number 844 has the same size tender as the Challenger and big boy. Be looking forward to seeing some pics of your latest collection. Tony.
  3. Here is the pic I couldn't load on the last post because was too big and the unthinkable happened the plaster came off luckily in one whole piece, all I had to do was glue it back with white glue, took the advantage and put in the blue wire, have to drill a hole in the tunnel mouth for the bus wire, have to do the same on the other side of the tunnel too. Tony
  4. An other great afternoon working on the layout, nearly finished the second module, one more day an then can solder in the feeder wires for the bus wires, have one blue wire in, why I having glues the brown javis grass mat as yet. Next step will using chicken wire and the Chux super wipes dipped in plaster to shape the right side cutting where the road ramp is. Tony
  5. Hi Roy, good footage on the model train show and the real steamies , I am a member of AMRA in the QLD Branch, what brand of Garratt do you have, some of them have connection issues, not sure I would have one, the problem is you would have to go and buy a rake of rolling stock for that era. Tony.
  6. Hi Ian, That is understandable especially with having to deal with the hernia surgery and getting over it, good you were able to get some help from club members to help you set up at your train shows, one thing I have problems when wanting to show my layout at the train show lack of helpers and transport being the big issue, would like to show this layout at the train show, one day. My layout is coming along slowly did some work on the TL tunnel second module last weekend will see how I feel today if I do some more on that module , being busy doing woodturning finishing off the last of the 6 pens yesterday . Have your luck being offered those UP passenger cars, I haven't ought any train stuff for a while, Christmas coming up so I will be putting my order in, trying to con a new NR class loco with the latest Indian Pacific logo and colour scheme. Like those F/8's in UP colours, another loco set on the wish list, only have a couple of F/7's which I plan to repaint to the Silver Streak loco's and passenger cars from the same movie. Be looking forward to seeing those pics, Tony.
  7. Hi Nige, that Athearn DD40 looks familiar, here is a pic of mine same running number, did notice you have both motors connected, why is that, mine isn't and runs well. Here is that pic looking down the loco of my DD35/b loco, you can notice the lean on the loco to the right, will reset the gear cap that holds the trucks in place, the motors aren't the originals either, had to do som sorting out so the loco will run with others, will mainly double head with the DD40 running number 70 and plan to buy a GP35 to triple head. The last pic is of my latest Bachman centennial DD40AX 6900, my first loco with DCC on board and the Big boy is a Revel 87 scale kit, I plan to model a diorama of the famous Union Pacific Kennefick park in Nebraska USA, would love a working big boy model. Tony.
  8. Hi Jon, I miss your question in post 155, asking about the track is powered , no it isn't at the moment, as soon as I get past finishing the bottom track scenery cutting and road access to the flange oilers I plan to model will lay down the rest of the track on TL spiral and may be put some power in and run the first test loco, exciting stuff and video clip to follow of the big event. Should get stuck into the top section of Tehachapi loop so the train can have a longer run past tunnel 10, love the other video clips too, that rust paint look on the post is pretty good too. Tony.
  9. Hi Griff, from what I have been reading on other forums you can go there but need permission, the same over here with our indigenous people also, Eyre's Rock you can't climb any more for the same thing. Tony.
  10. Hi Nige, yeah I will be doing just that setting the layout up every time like a module layout, can't have it up permanent as I have disable son in an electric wheel chair, but I can leave most of the sections set up if I am running trains for a few days, just like a module layout, plug and play set up with the wiring. The sections out in the open will have the post left in the garden, just a matter of screwing the sections to them and they we be all coded where each section screw into each other. I do have 7 modules for the station complex, they could be left set up for a couple of days also. Not really, I have the pavers marked where the tunnel module goes, when I pack the layout in the shed they will go in numbers so when I take them back out be easy to set up again, my yard is too steep to have a garden layout set up , especially like Micks and Fungus have, our summers are far too hot, why I am closer to the house where I can use the pergola for the station. Will take a bit longer to build, be easier if I had someone to help. Tony
  11. Steve wow that metal arch is some engineering and what sort of welder did you used to do the welding, I haven't done any welding for years now, must get mine out and see if I still have those welding skills. It also would of been hard to get the steel rods cut to the right size being on a gradient too, be awesome to see the first train run on the bridge. How long does it take you to upload onto you tube, you have a 10 minute video clip, I am going to set up an account tomorrow on u tube so I can upload a 6 minute video in full HD of birds having a free feed on bread and honey, lorikeets part of the parrot family, they are honey eaters do eat seed too. Going to my train club on Saturday and taking video of my Flying Scot with the duel tender dive tenders pulling 11 coaches , bought an iPhone6 mobile, takes awesome video and pics, might take some other video of my other trains also. Tony.
  12. Hi Nige, Thanks have been working on that DD35/B loco project form some time till I noticed that the loco had lean on it, was thinking of swapping the power trucks around, but like your idea of adding some weights on the other side, I may also the gear cover off and reset the power trucks in the pivot hole on the chassis, then I can get back to finishing the loco of, so many on the go. Have you had a look on my Camdale layout, I cheated and modified the second water tender of my Hornby Flying Scot to a tender drive can now pull 11 coaches with ease and could o puled 16 coaches didn't want to push it as the front tender drive has a 3 pole motor and second tender has a 5 pole, plan to at a later date replace the 3 pole with a 5 pole. Got a few pics of the Flying scot project, was going to start a new post like you have but knew that project was coming to an end and yes I did discover your other post after replied , will keep your new post going on the DD35 project. I also at the bottom of my page a link to my Boeing 737 fuselage project, you sure can get side tracked on your forum post. Tony.
  13. Hi Griff, fancy finding a seller in OZ that was able to sell you the parts, that's the trouble if you are after a part you would have to pay the full price, how many coupler boxes did you get, like the signal tower will make realism to your layout, not a bad price, yeah I have been the only bidder on a few eBay items. I think I did some research on your switcher and did send Roco an email and they came back with the same answer, out of stock. Griff do you know much about Pagosa Junction in Colorado, got a good topic going on FR's forum , been doing some more research in it's history, love finding out about railroad branch line ghost towns, this town had a big saw mill, there are quite a few other forums on the same topic, asking a bloke from another forum if I can post his pics on Pagosa junction. Tony.
  14. Hi Jon, awesome video clips can't wait to finely run my first train up the Tehachapi loop, going to set up a you tube account today so I can start uploading video clips taken from the new iPhone 6, takes awesome video and could set it up on a depressed centre flat wagon or modify an old loco, the first one will of the lorikeets having a free feed. I saw some of the video clips of you doing magician stuff , how long have you been doing that for, love the trick with the walking stick, awesome stuff, does your wife help you out on some of them. Been busy working on the second module that slides into the tunnel module of the TL, once I get past working on the cutting close to the tunnel entrance the rest of the cutting ill be easy and there will be an access road to the flange oilers which I will be modelling also, have some pics of them in post my, on the last two pages.
  15. hi Nige, now that is going to stunning painting the F/7 to Penn Central black with their white logo, there is quite a few listed on US eBay going real cheap I saw an Penn C F/7 A-B going for $23 but the postage was dearer. Only one other loco railroad I know is NS with the white logo and running numbers. Talking about the Athearn DD35 (DD40) locos I am kit bashing a DD40 to a DD35/B loco, got some issues with it at the moment , it is learning over to one side for some reason, it was real old chassis and trucks, other than that it runs fine, if I can't ix it will look at buying on eBay a replacement chassis, hopefully with motors. http://www.oogardenrailway.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=90&image_id=2832&display=popup' alt='URL>'> http://www.oogardenrailway.co.uk/gallery/image.php?album_id=90&image_id=2831&display=popup' alt='URL>'> I will painting the loco in UP colours of course, double heads with my Athearn UP DD40 (DD35) Having an issue with my Bachman DD40Ax the one I had painted in UP colours and 6936 running numbers, she keeps on losing power running up a grade, have had it to the bloke to look at it and all he did was clean the truck pic ups helped for a while back to doing the same again , real shame as the paint and decals are a top job, only cost me $45. Happy modelling Tony.
  16. Hi Nige, nice loco the Santa Fe 2-10-4 steamy look good running on my Tehachapi loop spiral, what's the plans with the F/7 loco, you sure can pick up some good bargains, I am after a couple so I can paint them up into the Silver Streak loco colour scheme, be good I can get the locos with those white strips still on them, Canadian Pacific would be a good start. Found your other post you sure have a good collection of big steam locos including the big boys, the closest I have to the big boy is revel 87th scale plastic kit, was hopping the drive wheels would turn but no, a permanent fix, count of modelled the loco on the 4014, the model will be modelled on the 4023 on display at Kennefick park with I am planning to do a diorama of. I am into the DD40AX's got three of them and one is 6900 and other 6936 , bought an unpainted DD40AX Bachman and had it painted to UP colours and those running numbers. Tony.
  17. Hi Mick nice touch the way the garden has come up around the bridge, like the idea of a dry river bed so it can retain some water after rain, over here in the outback that's what the rivers are most of the time till the rainy season comes in and they flood, what a waste of water, lake Eyre fills up only every few years in South Australia. Gee you have some good stuff for fence building, like those posts and the retaining wall under the fence, blends in nicely. How did you go fixing up the roof felt. I have been back working on the second module that slides into the tunnel module blending the dirt road in and the right side cutting, will be added a bit more ply so I can continue the small hill I am working on instead of it half done, going to look good when finished with added small shrubs. That would cost a fair bit to buy the blue aquarium gravel, over here we can get different coloured gravel, haven't seen blue gravel, we do have blue stone they use for gravel roads and drive ways. Mick do you have to upload to you tube to load on video clips to the forum, the new iPhone6 has iTunes format, my son is looking at changing the format. Keep the good work up and pics flowing, that means you will be starting on the next stage from the viaduct soon. Tony
  18. Manages to do a bit more work to the lower track cutting on the right side, realised that I had the ply too high after studding the pic of TL, got stuck into the plaster with a chisel an unscrewed the top piece of ply, looks heaps better now. Have decided to extend the ply on the module so I can plaster the whole hill will look much better also, will see how the plaster holds out if it cracks, being so much of it. Looking forward to finely finishing that side of the module finished and then there's the other side, will leave that for a while and get stuck into finishing the decking of the layout so I can get a train running up the spiral, be awesome. Tony
  19. Hi Steve nice work on the latest extension of your layout outside, like the idea of a curve suspension bridge be a big engineering feat, Roddy is the bridge you are talking about the Gateshead Millennium bridge the Japanese have curved road bridge of the same design so can be done. http://weburbanist.com/2010/03/07/suspending-belief-10-span-tastic-bridges/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; That bridge of question actually swings to let the boats through, there is a video link half way down the page. I am planning a bridge on the second stage of the layout, a long way off , got to get past finishing off the Tehachapi loop tunnel module, did some work on it yesterday, pics on my page, might get some more done today. While I was watching one of the video's I noticed the number plate on one of the cars, what's the idea of the letters being so large, in the UK our number plates in Australia are under half that size. Keep the good work pics and video flowing Steve. Tony
  20. Hi Roy, we have a family blue Tungue too, here is a couple of pics of him having a feed on a snail and in under the golden cane, will be seeing a lot more of him when the October lilies come into flower as the snails love them, he can move very fast as you say. Took the pics with my new iphone6 mobile phone camera, takes awesome video too, my son is going to change the itune format so I can upload to you tube, or can you load on itune format to the forum. Tony
  21. Had a good constructive afternoon working on the low level track scenery cutting, I go by the length of the loco on shaping the cutting the right side is a length of a loco and the end of the bottom board where the road will start rising up is three and a half locos give and take, few inches, still heaps of work a head before it will look like the real tunnel 9 entrance. I thought I would add one of the real pics of TL tunnel 9 to give everyone an idea on what I am achieving on the module tunnel, just about finished the first bag of plaster, need a second bag, rather buy the smaller bags. This module is he only module that will have scenery on is, not sure how I will tackle the other side of the tunnel, a bit of work a head there and fit I model Tehachapi hill with the white cross on top, does anyone know why the cross is there for, was there a bad train derailment many years back. Didn't have a good day yesterday woodturning, have to get the technic in getting the wood chisels sharpened at the right angles as that is the key in especially turning plastic pens. Tony :
  22. Hi Griff, did a search on those hummingbird moth, you were right about them being huge, some very nice colours also. A friend sent me another link on those wind turbines being transported by rail, heaps of pics and other links, like this way with the idea of having the blades in a specially built container. http://southern.railfan.net/flat/cars/loads/wind/wind.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Woodturning today want to turn three pens and put them together and finish the last two on Saturday, back to finishing off the TL tunnel module working on the lower track cutting and road access to those flange oilers. Tony.
  23. Hi Nige, love the colour scheme of the Southern Pacific's Day Lighter train, with that steamy the colour scheme suits I reckon, like the rocks in the behind the loco blends in with the loco. Good to see you are back on the forum again, like to see more pics and how is your layout going. Tony.
  24. Hi Ian, great you are improver day by day , I was told I couldn't do anything for four weeks, got in place extra hours for my son to take the load off my wife what that happens. Interesting about the road tax disc not being been needed on your cars over there after the1st of October, the same has happened in the Queensland too after the 1st of October, the rego sticker is now a thing of the past, we will leave ours on till next year, get the most out of the $600+ rego sticker. The 4 cylinders cost that, 6 cyclones $800 and 8 cylinders over $1,000 plus. It is mainly money saving venture by the LNP government and the Police can check your car any time if your car is registered or not. Tony.
  25. Hi fungus, Wow just pure awesome, I love your quarry,1n5 gradient is that pretty steep , how did you bend the track like that, looks pretty real. Got a link from another bloke that is in another forum, said I can share it, British railway operations. http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/gansg/index.htm#fops How are you going the extended viaduct past where the tree root problem was, like the little building covering the Peco points .
