Pontefract Steam in the snow No.7
After the passage of the Cardiff and Bournemouth passenger trains this atmospheric shot showed the heavy goods train referred to in the previous caption getting underway and having just passed over Grovetown bridge. Long icicles can be see in the right foreground hanging from the tender frames of the locomotive. The design of the locomotive (LNER Class B16/1) goes back to North eastern railway days in 1919 although this particular engine, No. 61443, was built in 1923 and only had two more years of working life left after this 1959 photograph was taken.
