Pontefract Steam in the snow No.5

This photograph was taken from the line side opposite what was then Oxclose Farm but which is now the Carleton Glen estate. The subject is a northbound football excursion from Birmingham to Middlesbrough which passed through Pontefract non-stop. Such extra trains as this normally carried a tablet number of the front of the locomotive for identification purposes and this is M945. The locomotive is an L.M.S. Class 5 4-6-0 No. 45186.
